Rotarians, high school students and members of local churches became construction workers for a few weekends.
Alpharetta Rotarians, church members and high school students helped build two of the three Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia homes at the Villages of Park Creek neighborhood. This past weekend the three families got help from those same volunteers in a dedication ceremony for their homes. The Habitat organization held a Dedication Ceremonyat the Villages of Park Creek neighborhood on the border of Cherokee County and Fulton County. It was a beautiful morning and more than 50 family members, sponsors, community members, and Habitat staff and board members attended the heart-warming ceremony, according to Habitat's Kristyn Johnson. Club members held a tennis event to benefit the Special Pops Tennis organization.
The Rotary Club of Alpharetta sponsored a round robin tennis event to benefit some special people on Saturday, March 9. The event raised $500 for the Special Pops Tennis organization, whose members took part on the courts. The event was held at Country Club of the South and followed an Up-the-river-Down-the-river No-ad scoring format. Each participating Rotary member was paired with a Pops Athlete. “I have been a Rotarian for 13 years, and this was one of the best and most rewarding events I have ever done. John and Karen Hipes reach major donor status after donating $10,000.
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is pleased to recognize John and Karen Hipes, members of the Alpharetta Rotary Club, for achieving the Major Donor status. A Major Donor is a person or husband and wife who have contributed a minimum of $10,000 to The Rotary Foundation. John and Karen are mission minded with a heart for international service. The money from their donation will be used for the Alpharetta Rotary Clean Water Project in Ecuador. The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization supported entirely by voluntary contributions. It has received cumulative contributions over the years of nearly $3 billion making it the largest foundation in the world dedicated to its vision of a building a better world…

Holiday tradition sends fruit baskets to Dogwood Square
Alpharetta Rotarians continued one of their holiday traditions by assembling and distributing fruit baskets to senior residents at Dogwood Square located on Janis Lane in Alpharetta. The residents look forward to the annual visit and have enjoyed it for many years. The Rotarians were joined by some of their family members and Santa Claus to bring good tidings to the residents. “We have visited Dogwood Square at this time of year for more than 15 years. Snacks, food and toiletries are being sent overseas.
As part of their continuing commitment to support our military, members of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta recently purchased more than $500 worth of snacks, food and toiletries which will be sent to troops overseas. Those receiving packages include two soldiers from families of the Alpharetta Rotarians. They are 1st Lt. Richard Kenney, who is currently serving in Djibouti and is the son of Rick Kenney, and Margaret Johnson, former wife of Wayne Johnson, currently serving in Afghanistan with a civil affairs unit. The Alpharetta Rotary is also supporting Private Matthew Jimmerson as well as First Lieutenant Kevin A’hearn.
