Fulton Superintendent Plans to Close Fulton Science Academy High

Robert Avossa today will present to the Fulton School Board an auditor's report in support of a letter of termination of the public charter school's contract he plans to send to the school.

Fulton Science Academy High School will close at the end of the school year if the Fulton School Board agrees the school's charter contract has been violated and the school must close. Superintendent of Schools Robert Avossa is expected to ask the Fulton School Board to terminate the charter school contract with Fulton Science Academy High School in Alpharetta during a work session today. Avossa wrote a letter dated Dec. 4 that detailed reasons for the termination recommendation, many of which mirrored reasons given when Fulton Science Academy Middle School was unable to renew its charter. Alpharetta Postpones Hearing on $10 Million Bond Issue for Amana Academy

The city had scheduled a hearing at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 3, on the public charter school's plans, but cancelled today's hearing to ensure the public has more notification about it.

The Amana Academy $10 million bond issue hearing originally scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 3 has been postponed, the city of Alpharetta announced this afternoon. "This action is being taken by the City of Alpharetta to ensure enhanced notification to the public as to the time and place at which the hearing will occur.  A revised hearing schedule has not been determined at this time," said the notice issued by Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard. The Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 requires a public hearing as a pre-condition for the exclusion from gross income for federal income tax purposes of interest on all qualified private activity bonds, according to the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. …

Cambridge Bears Open Practice with Midnight Growl

The brand new school's first varsity football team will practice under the lights at the earliest possible time, 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The first time the Cambridge Bears hold an official football practice will be a night to remember ­– a late night to remember, in fact, as the new high school will turn on the lights in its football stadium at midnight Tuesday for Midnight Growl. According to a news release from the Cambridge Bears Athletic Association, "The brand new high school may be behind all established football programs, but the Bears will be the first team in Georgia to start preparing for the inaugural 2012 season." The Georgia High School Athletic Association doesn't allow football practice until Aug. 1. Cambridge High Principal Ed Spurka has allowed the team to get the earliest possible start. Familiar Face Returns to Bridgeway Christian Academy Staff

Jennifer Gastley is back from Kansas as a vice principal at the Alpharetta school.

Bridgeway Christian Academy in Alpharetta recently welcomed back Jennifer Gastley, a former member of their administrative staff, who will begin the school year as a new vice principal. She re-joined the Bridgeway team over the summer and will be assisting the Head of School with staff development and faculty supervision along with overseeing the school’s daily academic operations. In addition, she will be responsible for the ongoing curriculum and program development necessary to maintain the school's academic standards. With more than 15 years of experience in education, Gastley holds a M.S. in Management Information Systems from Auburn University. She is also certified in Business Education by the state of Georgia. New Principals Hired for Creek View, New Prospect Elementary

One former Fulton County Schools principal moves to Atlanta City Schools, while another retired last spring.

Creek View and New Prospect elementary schools will start the next school year with new principals, with these replacements coming from within the school system and from outside the state. Nine new principals were announced by Superintendent Robert Avossa at the June 28 Board of Education meeting. “I’m pleased to welcome our new principals and know they will be an excellent addition to the Fulton County Schools team,” said Superintendent Robert Avossa. “Their leadership has made their current schools stand out and I’m confident they will do the same in their new positions.” The principals begin their new jobs today, July 2. Orientation has Milton High Students in School a Week Earlier

Parents, set your child's calendar for the week before school starts on Aug. 13 for orientation

School's out for summer, and the first day of the 2012-2013 school year isn't until Aug. 13. But students attending Milton High School will need to go back for a few hours on one day during the previous week for orientation. Yes, that's two months away, but it's better to write it down now than forget about it until it's too late. Alpharetta Elementary Get 'Fired Up for Reading'

Sen. John Albers, R-Roswell, recently visited with students at two of North Fulton’s top schools – Alpharetta Elementary School and Roswell North Elementary. College Board Honors Three Alpharetta, Milton High Schools

Fulton Science Academy High joins Alpharetta, Milton High on list.

Eleven Fulton County high schools were designated as "AP Honor Schools" by the College Board, including three in Alpharetta and Milton. Wednesday, Feb. 8 was AP Day in Georgia, the date when the organization in charge of Advanced Placement and the SAT announced its annual list of high-performing high schools.  The 2012 awards are based on the Class of 2011’s testing results and are grouped into five categories: AP Merit Schools, AP STEM Schools, AP STEM Achievement Schools, AP Challenge Schools, and AP Access and Support Schools. History Comes Alive for Alpharetta Elementary Students

Fourth graders at Alpharetta Elementary School took a trip back to the time of the american Revolution as they participated in a colonial history day. Lead by the team from Captain Sadler's History Camps, student participated in activities that included dancing George Washington's favorite dance, bartering, the re-creation of a one-room school house, playing with old time games and toys, and dressing up in clothes from the period of the American Revolution.
