A Ball Ground man will serve four years in federal prison on wire fraud charges in connection with a scheme to steal millions of dollars of communications equipment from Cisco Systems and his employer, Verizon Wireless. Michael W. Baxter, 62, of Ball Ground, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge J. Owen Forrester today, Oct. 3, to the prison term for a scheme to steal millions of dollars in high-value network communications equipment while employed as a network engineer for Verizon between 2000 and 2010. Baxter was sentenced to 4 years in prison to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2.33 million in restitution to Cisco Systems, and $462,828 in restitution to Verizon. A Roswell man was given a 15-year sentence in federal prison today, Sept. 7, for distributing graphic images of child pornography over the Internet. U.S. District Court Judge Willis B. Hunt Jr. sentenced Mark Twain Heaton III, 40, of Roswell, to 15 years in prison, to be followed by 15 years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Heaton pleaded guilty on March 29, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Heaton, a previously convicted sex offender, was caught in an undercover investigation from December 2011 to January 2012. Two North Georgia militiamen were sentenced to five years in federal prison on charges of conspiring to obtain an unregistered explosive device and silencer. Frederick Thomas, 73, of Cleveland, and Dan Roberts, 68, of Toccoa, were sentenced today, Aug. 22, by U.S. District Judge Richard W. Story to the prison terms, to be followed by three years supervised release. They were found guilty of the charges on April 10. A Johns Creek man was sentenced to federal prison and ordered to undergo treatment on charges he manufactured hundreds of sexually explicit images of more than two dozen underage girls from his neighborhood, where he superimposed photos of their faces onto pornographic images. An Ontario, Canada man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on Monday, Aug. 1 for traveling to Atlanta to have sex with an 11-year-old girl, attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activity, and possession of child pornography. United States District Court Judge James L.
