Chip Rogers to Earn More than Gov. Deal in Public Broadcasting Job

The former state Senator will earn $150,000 as executive producer, community jobs program with Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Chip Rogers will make more than Gov. Nathan Deal and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle each make in their public jobs when the former state Senator starts his new job Tuesday earning $150,000. The AJC reports that he'll be the seventh executive at Georgia Public Broadcasting earning six-figures annually, despite a rather pedestrian title: Executive producer, community jobs program. The position is paid solely through state taxpayers’ money. Rogers quit the state Senate less than a month after his re-election to his seat to take the position with GPB, which he said "is like a dream come true." He had yet to complete his previous term or take the oath for the new term before he resigned. Rogers came under fire for a meeting he organized in which Georgia …

Voter Turnout Low in State Senate Election

When so few registered voters head to the polls, your vote can have a great impact on an election.

More than 500 people in Milton and small portions of other North Fulton communities have voted in a special election for Georgia Senate District 21. That compares to the 700 plus Cherokee voters who cast ballots by midday Thursday in advance voting. Friday, Jan. 4 is the last day for advance voting before the Jan. 8 election. Eliglbe Fulton voters in Senate District 21 can cast their ballots at 30 South Main Street, Suite 1 in Downtown Alpharetta, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The voting location is adjacent to Alpharetta City Hall in the former Main Street Antique Market. Voters must pick a replacement for Chip Rogers, who officially won reelection in November, but resigned less than a month later to work for Georgia Public Broadcasting. …

No Debate For Senate District 21 Candidates

Due to scheduling conflicts and "inordinate delays," there will be no debate held between Rep. Sean Jerguson and Brandon Beach.

CORRECTION: We originally listed Jan. 8 as the date of the second proposed debate. The true date is Jan. 5. We have changed the article to reflect the proper information. Residents of Senate District 21 who wish to ask questions to the two men running for the right to represent them in Atlanta will be denied this opportunity, as it has been announced that no debate will be held between the two candidates ahead of the Jan. 8, 2013 special election. Michael Fitzgerald, chairman of the Georgia GOP's Sixth Congressional District, wrote an e-mail to candidates Brandon Beach and Rep. Sean Jerguson informing them that no debate could be held due to, "inordinate delays in commitments, dates and decisions to participate." In his e-mail to the …

Beach Challenged by Jerguson For Senate Seat

State Rep. Sean Jerguson of Holly Springs will take on Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Brandon Beach for the Senate District 21 seat.

Two more candidates qualified today to run in the Jan. 8, 2013, special election to fill two Georgia General Assembly seats. State Rep. Sean Jerguson (R-Holly Springs) qualified today to formally start campaigning for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which is now vacant due to the abrupt resignation of former Senator Chip Rogers. Jerguson had to formally resign from the Georgia House District 21 seat, which he was reapportioned into and subsequently won in the Nov. 6 general election, before running for the Georgia Senate.  His challenger, Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Brandon Beach of Alpharetta, qualified for the seat yesterday. It's the second time in one year in which Beach has launched a campaign for the…

Brandon Beach Enters State Senate Race

The Alpharetta resident will run for the same seat he sought during the July 31 primary

Ending nearly two days of speculation, Brandon Beach has announced his plans to run for the Senate District 21 seat.  Beach on Wednesday evening formally made his intentions known to the public to run for the seat, which has been vacated by former Senator Chip Rogers after he abruptly resigned Tuesday afternoon.  Beach, who said he's energized and ready to run for the seat, noted he wanted to thank Rogers for his service to the state. His announcement follows State Rep. Sean Jerguson's declaration of his candidacy to run for the same seat.  A special election date has tentatively been set for Jan. 8, 2013. “The people of Cherokee County and north Fulton need effective representation under the Gold Dome," he added. "We need a senator who is…

Sean Jerguson To Run For State Senate

The Holly Springs state representative will run for the seat vacated by former Senator Chip Rogers.

A Holly Springs Republican state legislator has tossed his hat into the ring to run for the Georgia Senate. Sean Jerguson confirmed to Patch early Wednesday afternoon that he will run for the Georgia Senate District 21 seat, which encompasses the eastern half of Cherokee County, Alpharetta and Milton.  The seat is now vacant as former Sen. Chip Rogers of Woodstock abruptly resigned from the position on Tuesday.  Jerguson said he's looked at the possibility very carefully and has prayed about it. “I think it was extremely important that someone from Cherokee County wins this seat and provide the conservative leadership that we need,” he said. Jerguson said he does not have to resign to announce he's running, but noted he has to resign from …

Chip Rogers To Step Down From Senate

Rogers recently also decided not to seek re-election as Senate majority leader.

One of the state's most prominent Republican politicians is slated to step down from the Georgia Senate. State Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) announced his resignation from the Georgia Senate in an interview with Walter Jones of Morris News.  Rogers, 44, said in a statement he plans to accept a position with Georgia Public Broadcasting. "The opportunity to help lead Georgia Public Broadcasting is like a dream come true in many respects," he said. "The incredible team put together by Director (Teya) Ryan is among the best in broadcasting. I really look forward to joining their efforts."   GPB is launching a new initiative in which it will "facilitate coverage of economic development and jobs in Georgia," according to a press release from …

Conceptual language must often get turned into reality before the damage is seen. This will also be true of our healthcare. Wait and see. Blame is a fool's game meant to divide Americans. It shouldn't matter who instituted it. If it is a bad thing we should acknowledge it as such and have the courage to change it.   more ›

Letter To The Editor: Agenda 21 "Threatens" American Government

Field Searcy has strong words against Agenda 21.

Editor's note: the following is a letter to the editor from Field Searcy, the man who gave the presentation on Agenda 21 in a meeting last month organized by Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock).  When I read on Page 185 of the March 2011 Cobb County Comprehensive Plan that the county supports the advancement of sustainable development policies as defined by the United Nations Division of Sustainable Development, I could no longer ignore that the U.N. Agenda 21 (A21) policies were real and thriving in America. The U.N. policies are detailed in a 300-page document along with the Local Agenda 21 Planning Guide. Sold as protecting the environment, sustainable development policies are more far-reaching than our fields and streams. A21 outlines …

@GuyBailey Agenda 21 is VERY REAL. It is not a conspiracy theory, and it IS being implemented in the US at the local levels where many officials don't know what it is. The "sustainability" and "smart growth" movements are how it is being sold. But, we CAN beat it if we root it out in our local communities. Check into your local governments and planning commissions ... city, county, and state. …   more ›
