A Roswell man was given a 15-year sentence in federal prison today, Sept. 7, for distributing graphic images of child pornography over the Internet. U.S. District Court Judge Willis B. Hunt Jr. sentenced Mark Twain Heaton III, 40, of Roswell, to 15 years in prison, to be followed by 15 years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Heaton pleaded guilty on March 29, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Heaton, a previously convicted sex offender, was caught in an undercover investigation from December 2011 to January 2012. A Johns Creek man was sentenced to federal prison and ordered to undergo treatment on charges he manufactured hundreds of sexually explicit images of more than two dozen underage girls from his neighborhood, where he superimposed photos of their faces onto pornographic images. Dirk LaPaglia, 53, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Orinda D. Evans to 6 years in federal prison to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, and ordered to undergo addiction therapy and treatment as available, as well as register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. An Ontario, Canada man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on Monday, Aug. 1 for traveling to Atlanta to have sex with an 11-year-old girl, attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activity, and possession of child pornography. United States District Court Judge James L. Graham, visiting from the Southern District of Ohio, sentenced Brian Schumaker, 54, of Mississagua, Ontario, Canada, according to Patrick Crosby, public affairs officer for the U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern Georgia.
