Cogburn Road Bridge Project Gets Closer to Completion

The culvert that replaces the bridge has been installed, with the roadway alignment work starting.

Cogburn Road has been closed just north of Hopewell Middle School as crews replace the bridge. The  city has used its webite to give regular updates on th e project. The final sections of the bridge were set last week and backfilling operations continued, according to the latest report. Soon the road will be back up to the new grade and alignment. The majority of the bridge structure was set in place and backfilling operations began the previous week. The bridge closed starting Saturday, May 19, and that section of Cogburn Road will remain closed until early August when the project should be completed. Cogburn Road Closes Today For Bridge Replacement

Contractors will need almost three months to replace it with an arch culvert, so you'll be making detours if you normally use this road.

Cogburn Road is now closed for three months to through traffic so Milton can replace a deteriorating, narrow bridge just down the hill from the entrance to St. Francis High. Motorists will have to take detours as contractors tear out the old bridge over Cooper Sandy Creek to replace it with a culvert with two, eleven-foot travel lanes with two-foot paved shoulders, curb and gutter with a trail on the west side in conformance with the trail master plan and a rural grassed shoulder on the east side. So if you are driving up Cogburn Road from Windward Parkway to Alpharetta's North Park, if you forget the road closure you'll need to make a right turn at Webb Road and take it to Hwy. 9, turning left to continue north. With few connecting roads…

Bridge Replacement Closing Cogburn Road

The bridge identified as the most deficient in all of Milton will be replaced in a three-month construction project.

Replacing a bridge on Cogburn Road held up with timbers – that's wood, folks – will force motorists to drive on Highway 9 all summer long. On Saturday, May 19, the first day of summer vacation (and graduation day for a lot of Alpharetta and Milton High seniors), work will begin replacing the bridge over Cooper Sandy Creek just east of St. Francis High School's entrance. That means only local traffic will be able to use Cogburn Road between Webb Road and the bridge, and between Bethany Bend and the bridge. Some of the local residents will even have to make that detour. You'll still be able to use Alpharetta's North Park, you'll just have to go north on Highway 9 – or come in from the west on Bethany Bend. Milton City Council approved a bid …

Alpharetta to Stop Cut-Through Traffic on Douglas Road for Construction

Sidewalk and road improvements will cause the city's contractor to close a section of the road starting June 6.

If you normally drive down Doulgas Road in Alpharetta, you'd better change your plans starting next Monday. The city of Alpharetta will close a portion of the road beginning June 6 due to a road construction project. The affected area is between Leeward Run Drive and Oak Tree Hollow.  South Lake Drive and Leeward Walk Circle will also be closed at their intersections with Douglas Road, according to a news release from the city. The purpose of these closures is to permit construction associated with the intersection and pedestrian improvements at Douglas Road and South Lake Drive and the replacement of the bridge across Caney Creek. While the road closures are in effect, a detour route will be posted utilizing Jones Bridge Road and McGinnis…

Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta Public Works Director, 678-297-6200, or Arthur Letchas, 678-297-6020, Mayor, are the ones to call, along with any of the Alpharetta council members who approved the roundabout (which is why the road is closed) planned for that intersection. The City's website says the roundabout should be completed in December, but with delays, etc., it won't be finished until next year…   more ›
