Philip Anderson won the state championship earlier this month for his weight class.
Milton High School wrestler Philip Anderson recently won the Georgia championship in the 126-pound weight class, and on Tuesday, Feb. 26, he was recognized as the Student-Athlete of the Month. Anderson and Centennial High's Rebecca Davis were the male and female athletes of the month honored at the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast by the chamber and XL212. Anderson accepted a scholarship to wrestle from Gardner Webb in North Carolina. Davis is a junior basketball player who helped lead her team to its best season record in school history. In addition to being a consistent contributor in basketball, she has also lettered in lacrosse and cross country.

Wrestlers have partnered with an Alpharetta organization committed to helping our nation's veterans with personalized, customized job search training and assistance. Tonight will be the second airing of a special WWE Tribute to the Troops on NBC at 9. WWE has partnered with Hire Heroes USA to serve veterans.WWE officials said they will make a donation and utilize all its assets, including TV broadcasts, live events, digital and social media to generate awareness and raise funds. Alpharetta Junior Raider wrestlers competed in a match at Chattahoochee High School on Dec. 16, with 14 of the 17 wrestlers taking home medals. Jackson Fiorillo (8-U/75) took home the GOLD after pinning all three of his opponents. Chuck Boyd, head coach of the Alpharetta Junior Raider Wrestling elementary school program, said he was pleased with the results and looks forward to some of the elementary team moving up to open-level tournaments in January. Junior Raider Wrestlers Win at Northview Beginners Tournament. Four of the six Junior Raider wrestlers who competed at the Northview High School Beginners Tournament medaled, with one earning gold Jacob Fragle (10-U/70) went 3-1 to earn the gold medal on a tiebreaker criteria. He is only a fourth grader in his first year of wrestling, said Coach Mark Spivak. Fragle is a young fourth grader who will have another year in the 10-U class and he has shown tremendous improvement in his understanding of technique and his acquisition of body awareness, according to his coach, Mark Spivak. The Junior Raider Wrestling Club finished fourth after falling to West Forsyth in the championship round.
The Junior Raider Wrestling Club achieved a fourth place finish in The Border Wars, a competitive eight-team dual meet tournament held at Alpharetta High School. It was Alpharetta's first foray at hosting a youth wrestling tournament, and club leaders call it "an incontrovertible success." Alpharetta theatrically jazzed up the event with thumping entrance music for each team, a loud crowd countdown for the opening matches, and announcers stating the winning wrestlers names, teams, and scores for each match. Gold, silver and bronze were collected by the 14-member Junior Raider Wrestlers at the Harrison Top Dog Beginners Tournament at Harrison High School in Kennesaw on Nov. 20. As a team the Junior Raiders finished second in the event out of 36 teams that competed. The Junior Raiders earned 152 match points, behind only Walton who earned 190 match points. In addition, the Junior Raiders earned nine total pins, which was the fourth highest quantity of team pins, behind only Walton (14), Chattahoochee (11), and River Ridge (10). Creek View Elementary School 5th grader Daniel Gladwell Jr., a member of the Alpharetta Junior Raider Wrestling Club, earned a gold medal in the first wrestling tournament he ever entered. On Saturday, Nov. 12, Gladwell entered the Takedown Sportswear Preseason Open held at Lambert High School in Suwanee. He competed in the 10 and Under age group's 112 Pound weight class. In his first match, he decisively defeated a more experienced West Forsyth wrestler by the score of 10-3, said his coach, Mark Spivak.
