Last week the former executive of DocX in Alpharetta pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud conspiracy charges.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette on Monday announced he charged an Alpharetta woman, with racketeering for her alleged role in authorizing the "robo-signing " of mortgage documents filed in Michigan. The felony charge against Lorraine Brown, former president of mortgage document processor DocX, comes a week after the U.S. Department of Justice announced Brown had entered a guilty plea on similar federal charges. The USDOJ said Brown admitted her participation in a six-year scheme to prepare and file more than 1 million fraudulently signed and notarized mortgage-related documents with property recorders’ offices throughout the United States. A Ball Ground man will serve four years in federal prison on wire fraud charges in connection with a scheme to steal millions of dollars of communications equipment from Cisco Systems and his employer, Verizon Wireless. Michael W. Baxter, 62, of Ball Ground, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge J. Owen Forrester today, Oct. 3, to the prison term for a scheme to steal millions of dollars in high-value network communications equipment while employed as a network engineer for Verizon between 2000 and 2010. Baxter was sentenced to 4 years in prison to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2.33 million in restitution to Cisco Systems, and $462,828 in restitution to Verizon. A Ball Ground man who worked for Verizon Wireless in Alpharetta has been indicted on 30 counts of fraud under an indictment that accuses him of a scheme to steal millions of dollars in high-value network communications equipment. He's accused of using the money from sales of the equipment to buy personal luxury items such as jewelry, cars, international travel and cosmetic surgeries for his girlfriend. Michael W.
