Cambridge Names Jake Todd Athlete of the Week

The freshman swimmer qualified for Georgia State Championhips

Jake Todd, a freshman on the Cambridge High School varsity swim team, was named the Cambridge Athlete of the Week. He qualified for the fastest heat for the team at the North Fulton County Championships. was the only swimmer to qualify to compete in the fastest heat in any event from the Cambridge squad at North Fulton County Championships in mid-January. He's also qualified to compete at the North Georgia Regions in his 500-freestyle and 100-backstroke. In his 500-freestyle, Jake dropped almost 10 seconds from his best time to swim a 5:18.79 and earn third place, which qualified him to compete in Georgia State Championships at Georgia Tech in February.

Alpharetta Swimmers Bring Home State Medals

The select summer swim program based out of Wills Park had top finishers in freestyle, breaststroke and relays.

The City of Alpharetta State Swim Team (C.O.A.S.T.) had a hugely successful weekend at the Georgia Recreation and Parks State Swim Meet on July 27 and 28. C.O.A.S.T. finished the weekend with several big wins while representing Alpharetta. Top Finishers C.O.A.S.T. is a select summer swim program sponsored by the City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department and is based out of Wills Park.  The team consists of local swimmers age 7 to 18 years. Milton Swim Teams Compete for State Honors

The high school boys team finished third and the girls 16th, with several swimmers taking individual honors.

The Milton High Swim Team competed at the state competition this weekend at Georgia Tech, with the boys finishing sixth and the girls 16th, according to Athletic Director Craig Bennett.  Sam Lewis placed first in the state in the 100 Back (Automatic All-American) and second in the 100 Fly (Automatic All-American). Katie Grover (10th Grade) placed first in the 100 Free (All-American Consideration) and third in the 100 Back (All-American Consideration). Sam Lewis, Griffen Garratt, Johnny Dodero, and Eric Wan placed third in the 200 Medley Relay and qualified for All-American Consideration. Everett Hyatt, Sam Lewis, Johnny Dodero, and Eric Wan finished fourth in the 400 Free Relay and qualified for All-American Consideration. Eric Wan placed …

Alpharetta Students Heading to NAIA National Championships

SCAD's women's and men's swimming teams have been ranked and will compete in the NAIA national championships later this month. Mary Rose Palermo of Alpharetta, a sophomore pursuing a degree in advertising design, is a member of the women's team, which is ranked third in the nation by the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving Coaches Poll-No. 2, released Jan. 31. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches from the NAIA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association. The second poll will be released on Feb. 24. Chris Wilson of Alpharetta,  a junior, is a member of the SCAD men’s swim team, which is ranked fourth and also will compete in the NAIA national championships. He's pursuing a degree in film and television.

Young Patch Athlete: James Deitrich

This 5-year-old has been swimming since he was six months old.

James Deitrich School: He is in kindergarten at Summit Hill Elementary School. Sports Bio: Began swimming at the age of 6 months at the Forsyth YMCA and started at Swim Atlanta in March of 2011. Home Pool: Swim Atlanta Scouting Report: Swims twice a week during the school year and 4 or 5 times a week during the summer. Favorite Swimmer: His cousin Jennifer Griner Greatest Accomplishment: He learned to go underwater and put his face in the water without being afraid.

Alpharetta Recreation Commission Gets Visit from Some Sharks

Swim team honored for successes in the pool.

Several members of the Alpharetta Sharks Swim Team visited the Alpharetta Recreation Commission on Thursday night, Aug. 25, for some recognition on a successful season for the city recreation program. Anna Debban, who spent her first summer as the program's coordinator, said she "quickly found out the spirit, the pride and the hard work it takes to be a part of the team." The Sharks started their season even before the last school year had ended, splitting time between school work, studying for end of year test and swim practices. Debban said their families made the same level of commitment, getting them to swim meets and practices–"numerous practices." Patch Young Athlete: Nelson Gautier

This ninth-grader at Milton High School has been swimming since he was 3 years old.

Nelson Gautier School: Nelson is a ninth-grader at Milton High School.  Sports Bio: Started swimming without assistance at the age of 3 and joined a swim league at the age of 7. Has been swimming with SwimAtlanta since the sixth grade. Home Gym: SwimAtlanta Cumming under coach Landon Harris. Favorite Pro: Eric Chanteau, who swam at the last Olympic games in Bejing and who was trained by SwimAtlanta too. Top Stats: Summer of 2011, Nelson had three GA state cuts times in long course races: 400 meter Free, 200 meter Free and 800 meter Free Scouting Report: Practices six days a week, two hours a day and participates in meets a minimum once a month.

With temperatures in the low 90s on the first official day of summer, here's a few ways to stay cool.
