Rucker Road lacks sidewalks in key locations, so pedestrians have to step into traffic if they are on the wrong side of a bridge on the way to school or Crabapple stores.
Local residents again told Alpharetta city staff that Rucker Road needs to remain a two-lane road with residential characteristics. That might be a tough challenge for what has long been a major connector for Cherokee and Roswell residents on their way to and from work in Alpharetta or even Gwinnett. On Feb. 26 the city held its final of three interactive public information meeting with neighborhood residents. Now city staff will take the input from them and try to turn it into a concept design for the entire road from Wills Road to Houze Road. The City Council has its annual milling and resurfacing project on its agenda tonight.
Alpharetta City Council is expected to approve spending $1.56 million in its annual paving project during its meeting at City Hall tonight, Aug. 6. City staff is recommending approval of the apparent low bidder, Blount Construction. The city had Moreland Altobelli Associates rate its 500 miles of streets, and each of those chosen for milling and resurfacing this year scored no better than a 35 on a scale of 1 to 100. Projected savings will allow the addition of the Wacky World parking lot and Alpharetta Cemetery Drive to the list, according to the Engineering and Public Works report created by Geoffrey Sarra, senior engineer.
