Milton Player to be Honored at Braves All-Star Luncheon

Dylan Cease was chosen from among all metro area high school baseball players.

The top high school baseball players in metro Atlanta - including one from Milton High School - will be honored at the Braves 400 Fan Club’s Annual High School All-Star Luncheon next week, according to a recent press release. Dylan Cease will join 15 others for the prestigious event. The luncheon's guest speaker Frank Wren is the executive vice president and general manager of the Atlanta Braves. His insightful advice to the young athletes is always welcomed by the All-Star players and their parents. Lady Bears Face Starr's Mill in State Tennis Semifinals

The Cambrige girls team beat North Atlanta to advance in the state playoffs.

The Lady Bears of Cambridge High School will face the Starr's Mill Panthers in a semifinal match in the Georgia High School Association state tennis championships. The Lady Bears continued their blistering play and posted a huge win against North Atlanta, 3-1, at home on April 30 to set up Wednesday's match against the Fayette County team. Kayla Rycroft at 3 singles, Hannah Walden and Lily Niebur at 2 doubles and Brenna Feirer and Kiley Dempsey at 1 doubles posted great wins for the Bears last week. The semi-final match will be at Cambridge on Wednesday, May 8, at 4 p.m. The winner will then go to the State Finals in Jonesboro on Saturday, May 11.

Alpharetta Ambush Academy Cup Brings Hundreds of Kids to Parks

The two-day soccer tournament opens in Alpharetta today.

The 2013 Alpharetta Ambush Academy Cup opens today in Alpharetta, with approximately 70 teams in levels U9-U12 for boys and girls visiting fields across the city for the two-day tournament. The Ambush Academy Cup is planned to be an annual event each February that "signals the end of winter and the beginning of another exciting spring season," according to the tournament website. Games will be played in Alpharetta at three venues: Webb Bridge Park, 4780 Webb Bridge Rd., Alpharetta, GA 30005 Alpharetta North Park, 13450 Cogburn Rd., Alpharetta, GA 30004 Kings Ridge Christian School, 2765 Bethany Bend, Alpharetta, GA 30004 (Football Stadium) Field turf and natural grass fields will be utilized for the tournament.

Alpharetta High Lady Raiders Beat Lambert as Season Winds Down

The fifth-ranked girls baskeball team notched another victory at home Tuesday night.

The Lambert High Lady Longhorns managed to drop a few three-pointers to keep in the game for most of the night, but the Alpharetta High School Lady Raiders were on top by the end of Tuesday's girls basketball game. The Lady Raiders won, 78-54. The AJC ranks the Lady Raiders fifth in the state as of Jan. 27, before Tuesday night's victory. They'll next face South Forsyth on Friday, Feb. 1 at home in their question for regional and state championships. The regional championships will be held Feb. 12-16 at Alpharetta High School. Just three games remain in the regular season, and Friday's game is the Lady Raiders' last regular season home game.         5. Alpharetta (18-3)

Milton High Sports Program 12th in the Nation

The Eagles took the top spot in Georgia and were only behind 11 other schools in the inaugural MaxPreps Cup standings.

Milton High School has the twelth best prep sports program in the country, and best in Georgia, according to MaxPreps Sports. The top school in the nation is American Heritage in Plantation, Fla. Milton High Principal Clifford Jones was glad to spread news of the designation today. "Milton High School community strives for excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Our coaches are committed to building programs where students can grow in skill and character. Fulton County Schools support parents and communities in their efforts to create first class opportunities for students," Jones said. Milton Girls' Soccer Team Makes National Ranking

Milton High makes national rankings for girl's soccer

  The Milton High Girl’s Soccer Team was ranked no. 8 in the nation in the final ESPNHS POWERADE FAB 50 Spring Soccer national rankings. After winning the Georgia Class AAAAA state championship, Milton made the top ranking in Georgia. More than 20 states that play spring soccer were included.   According to an analysis on the FAB 50 site, “In what was a down year in Class AAAAA, Milton was head and shoulders above the group, outscoring its five playoff opponents 26-2. Milton's only setback on the season was a tie with St. Pius that was settled on penalty kicks.”

Alpharetta Keeps Rolling in its State Basketball Playoff Debut

Ty Toney's 36 points lead the Raiders to an 80-69 victory over Peachtree Ridge.

The Alpharetta Raiders continue to win in their first trip to the state boys basketball playoffs, beating Peachtree Ridge Lions 80-69 on Wednesday night, Feb. 29. Alpharetta High School's Ty Toney led all scorers with 36 points, but the Lions gave him a helping hand reaching that total, sending him to the line 21 times. Almost all of those came in the final minutes–16 in the fourth period with 12 sinking into the basket–as Peachtree Ridge fought for a way to gain ball control. Toney was 17 for 21 at the free throw line. He added eight two pointers and a single three to reach 36 points. Other Raiders in double figures were Carlos Burse with 25 and Bjorn Walker with 10. Milton's Spring Soccer Registration Ends After Saturday

The YMCA is partnering with the cit of Milton for the new program.

Just one more day left for parents to sign their children up for YMCA/City of Milton spring soccer program. Once it's Sunday, registration will be over. To register for spring soccer, click here. Use the online IDs in the flyer posted with this article. Late sign-ups will be accepted until teams are full. This exciting new program for children and teens ages four to 13 is thanks to a partnership between the City of Milton and Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA. In addition, three year olds can join in a "Mini-Kickers" program introducing them to the sport. Practices begin the week of Feb. 20 at Crabapple Crossing Elementary and Hopewell Middle schools thanks to partnerships between the YMCA, Milton and Fulton County Schools. Saturday games …

Milton Swim Teams Compete for State Honors

The high school boys team finished third and the girls 16th, with several swimmers taking individual honors.

The Milton High Swim Team competed at the state competition this weekend at Georgia Tech, with the boys finishing sixth and the girls 16th, according to Athletic Director Craig Bennett.  Sam Lewis placed first in the state in the 100 Back (Automatic All-American) and second in the 100 Fly (Automatic All-American). Katie Grover (10th Grade) placed first in the 100 Free (All-American Consideration) and third in the 100 Back (All-American Consideration). Sam Lewis, Griffen Garratt, Johnny Dodero, and Eric Wan placed third in the 200 Medley Relay and qualified for All-American Consideration.
