Nestlé Says Milton High Senior Among Very Best in Youth

Shaun Verma of Alpharetta, who founded a medical mentoring organization when he was 13, continues to gain attention for MDJunior.

The teenage founder of MDJunior has another honor to accompany his Greatest Person of the Day designation by Huffington Post. Shaun Verma, 17, was recently named a winner in the 2013 Nestlé Very Best In Youth competition. Verma is one of 18 students selected in a search for  the most outstanding youth leadership in America. Nestlé will donate $1,000 in the name of each winner to the charity of his choice. The company also awards winners a trip with a parent or guardian to Los Angeles for the Nestlé Very Best In Youth awards ceremony. The trip includes round trip coach air travel, hotel accommodations for three nights, and spending money. Student-Led Group Plans Medical Mentor Mission to Honduras

Milton High student Shaun Verma's MDJunior has plans for volunteer students and medical professional in the Central American country.

  Spring Break for a group of high school and middle school students will be spent out of the country, but not at some resort. The members of MDJunior will head to Honduras with healthcare professionals on a global medical-mentor mission. Shaun Verma, the Milton High student who founded MDJunior, said previous high school attendees call this a life changing experience. Teen Creates MDJunior to Put Students, Medical Mentors Together

Shaun Verma's organization uses a long-term approach on medical missions to make sure local support systems are created.

Shaun Verma, a senior at Milton High School, has been volunteering since he was 10 or 11 years old, but his first eye-opening experience was when he was in fourth or fifth grade helping with Red Cross disaster relief in California where he used to live. Wildfires had hit San Bernadino County, displacing homeowners all over the region. He didn't know what to expect when he headed off to the event, but when he arrived it was a revelation. "Thousands and thousands of people were affected," Verma said. There just weren't enough supplies to go around. "It was an overwhelming experience," he said.
