Patch, Other Websites Go Dark Friday for Sandy Hook

Alpharetta-Milton Patch and Patch sites nationwide will participate in an online moment of silence in memory of the victims of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Alpharetta-Milton Patch will go dark at 9:30am on Friday, Dec. 21st. And so will thousands of other websites across the country. Patch and other online companies are taking part of an online moment of silence in memory of the victims of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The event will last one minute.  As of 6pm Thursday, more than 130,000 people took the pledge on Causes.com. Websites wishing to participate can embed a green ribbon on their site, like the one you see in this article. Twitter users are also asked to use the hashtag #momentforSandyHook to show their support. Dick's Sporting Goods Suspends Sales of 'Modern Sporting Rifles'

The company suspended the sales chainwide, and removed all guns from sale and display at its store closest to Newtown, CT.

Dick's Sporting Goods has suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of its stores chainwide, the company announced on its website. This includes the Dick's store in Alpharetta off North Point Parkway. In a story first reported on CNN, the company made the decision in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, CT, that left 20 children and 6 school staff members dead. "We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community," company officials announced on the website. 27 people, 18 of them children, are reported dead in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to Newtown Patch. What will you say to your children?

Parents' hearts are in their throats in Alpharetta, Milton and across the country as news spreads of an elementary school shooting in Connecticut that reportedly took the lives of 18 children and nine adults. Newtown Patch in Connecticut is posting live updates about the shooting, which was reportedly carried out by a single adult who is now dead.
