Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent series of public design meetings focused on planning the future of the Rucker Road Corridor.  The ideas and comments provided by participating residents was of tremendous benefit to our engineers as they created draft concept designs for the roadway. Rucker Road Design Narrows Lanes to Slow Traffic

City staff says making it a tree-lined corridor also will help preserve the residential neighborhood feel while narrowing sight lines to also lower speeds.

Alpharetta can do something about the appearance of the Rucker Road corridor, narrow lanes to slow traffic, add sidewalks and improve intersections, but what the city can't do is to reduce the traffic. "We can't make the traffic go away. I wish we could. It's not going to happen," said Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard, during the city's unveiling of a draft plan for Rucker Road. "Even if we stopped all growth in Alpharetta, which is not going to happen, Cherokee County is growing like crazy. And they're not going to stop." He said the neighboring county has a lot of growth potential but not a lot of jobs. The work is in Alpharetta and in Gwinnett County. And Cherokee County as plans to widen sections of GA 140. Alpharetta Unveils Rucker Road Corridor Designs Tonight

Residents of local neighborhoods are again asked to comment, this time on how well the city has addressed their concenrs.

Alpharetta's Engineering and traffic planning staff have created a draft design plan for Rucker Road after hearing from residents in neighborhoods along the street how the road should look and function. Tonight at 7 the city will unveil the designs and ask if they've addressed residents' concerns. In February the city held several meetings for residents who live in neighborhoods along the Rucker Road corridor.  Those sessions were designed for them to share ideas and concerns for the corridor. City staff listened to learn how they could design the roadway so that it better meets their needs.  Most of the road is lined with residential neighborhoods, but it has become a major connecting route for Roswell and Cherokee motorists on their way …

Alpharetta to Present Plan for Rucker Road Corridor

The city's staff has taken public comments to meld into a draft plan that will be revealed and discussed on April 29.

What did Alpharetta's staff make of local residents' ideas for the Rucker Road Corridor? A draft design will be brought back before the community on April 29 to see what weeks of work has developed. In February you took the time to participate in a series of meetings held by the City of Alpharetta for citizens who live in neighborhoods along the Rucker Road Corridor," said Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard in a release today. "You will recall that those sessions were designed for you and your neighbors to share your ideas and concerns for the corridor and for us to listen and learn so that we could design the roadway in a holistic manner that better meets your needs." Alpharetta Neighbors Make Dangerous Bridge Crossing on Foot

Rucker Road lacks sidewalks in key locations, so pedestrians have to step into traffic if they are on the wrong side of a bridge on the way to school or Crabapple stores.

Local residents again told Alpharetta city staff that Rucker Road needs to remain a two-lane road with residential characteristics. That might be a tough challenge for what has long been a major connector for Cherokee and Roswell residents on their way to and from work in Alpharetta or even Gwinnett. On Feb. 26 the city held its final of three interactive public information meeting with neighborhood residents. Now city staff will take the input from them and try to turn it into a concept design for the entire road from Wills Road to Houze Road. Rucker Road has been on Alpharetta and Fulton County's plans for years. With new cities and annexations Fulton no longer has an involvement in North Fulton roads. But parts of the road are in …

Alpharetta Council Gives Rucker Neighborhoods, Developer Time

A rezoning application for a 20-home subdivision off Rucker Road was tabled Monday night.

A developer and residents of two Rucker Road subdivisions have been given a chance to work out their differences about a zoning case before Alpharetta City Council votes on the proposed new subdivision. David Hole, representing the development company he and his father own, presented a plan to build 20 homes on the 13 acres of the Cromen Ferguson property on Rucker Road. This is much less dense than the original 37-home subdivision originally proposed, and the 30-home plan the Alpharetta Planning Commission recommended be denied for zoning. Rucker Road residents in this and other neighborhoods might want to attend tonight's public information meeting in which they can help plan the future for Rucker Road. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at …

Alpharetta Residents Say Keep Rucker a Two-Lane Road

The city asks local residents for their vision of the street.

A handful of Rucker Road area residents told Alpharetta city staff they want the road to remain a two-lane road during a public, interactive meeting on Feb. 11. This was the first of three interactive meetings in which the city asked residents to give their vision of road improvements. No concept plans were created for them to view. City engineers will design a concept plan based on what the public wants, which will be presented sometime in March to see if they got it right. The next public meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Crabapple Government Center. A third meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at Alpharetta City Hall. Rucker Road has become a major connecting road with much through traffic from Cherokee …

Alpharetta Wants Rucker Residents to Help Improve the Road

City residents will have three chances to offer their ideas to improve traffic and the appearance of Rucker Road this month even before engineers get started with their notions.

How would you make improvements to pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic on Rucker road? What other changes would you make? The city of Alpharetta announced in a news release today that it will host a series of meetings for citizens who live in neighborhoods along Rucker Road for the purpose of learning: Since TSPLOST failed at the polls last year, the city has to rely on its own funding sources to improve the road, which connects Crabapple Road on one end to Old Milton Parkway on the other. Don't come expecting to see proposals by engineers, consultants or city staff. The time is set aside for local residents.
