So, in honor of Earth Day, Patch has teamed up with Sony to present these ideas for making every day Earth Day. How can we make every day Earth Day? Begin with little things. Easy things. Obvious things. Things we take for granted each day, and use and/or abuse because of…

The city, in conjunction with Milton Grows Green, is hosting an online survey to gain this understanding. All residents and business owners in Milton are encouraged to take the survey, which must be completed by Aug. 1. Milton Environmental Sustainability Coordinator Cindy Eade said survey takers can remain anonymous when they fill out the 5-minute survey. However, there is an option to provide contact information if you would like to discuss a specific issue regarding trash collection. Alpharettans got a chance to dispose of their outdated electronics, when the PTA partnered up with IMS, a California-based electronic recycling company.
This morning the PTA of Manning Oaks Elementary School joined forces with electronic recycling organization IMS, and invited the public to drop off their old computers and modems to be put to better use. IMS’s general manager in Decatur, Don Schwendeman, hopes events like this won’t be just a one-time deal. “We hope to raise awareness in the community by teaming up with local schools and nonprofits,” Schwendeman said. “The laws of the land are changing where things can’t just be thrown in a landfill. And we're working to help [the community] understand our regulatory duties.” Some states have recycling regulations, where manufacturers and individuals can’t dispose their electronics into landfills. Which helps in stunting lead and mercury …

Alpharetta no longer participates in the Bulky Trash Amnesty Collection with neighboring Roswell and Milton, but that's not because the city doesn't want residents to safely dump these items. Alpharetta residents can schedule free pick-ups of bulky trash items curbside by calling 678-407-6216. "Alpharetta residents should use their curbside service option and not attend the Bulky Trash Day Collection," said Terry Porter, the city's Environmental Programs coordinator. Editor's Note: Roswell and Milton continue the Bulky Trash program on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m.-noon. The city's spokesperson, Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard, said this fits with one of its goals as a Certified Green Community. The following are additional …
