Nix Road Resident Complains of 100 Deep Potholes

The latest materials used for maintaining the road are too slick and fill up drainage ditches, she told Milton City Council Monday night.

Nix Road has more than 100 potholes, according to a local resident, and the methods used to maintain the road just aren't working. Rise Hershoran told Milton City Council on Monday night, March 4, that she's lived along the road for 12 years and the surface that has been picked over and over again hasn't been the same surface that was used when she first built her house there. The drainage ditches connected by a drain pipe under her driveway are filled to the top with sand. "That never happened when I moved there originally," she said. "The surface has too much sand or something that's in it." But Hersoran said her real problem is with the road, not the drainage ditches. Alpharetta Adds 19 Streets, $880,000 in Street Repair Program

The City Council added the funding in its mid-year budget adjustment, which still requires a second reading before becoming official.

Alpharetta City Council tentatively added $880,000 to its budget to resurface sections of 19 more streets that are deemed to be in the worst shape in the city, excluding the streets funded by the original $1.5 million approved in the Fiscal Year 2013 budget. The Georgia Department of Transportation would provde $380,000 of the funding in its Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant program. Alpharetta would spend $500,000 as a match to get the grant. The City Council has to approve the funding in its mid-year budget adjustment and ordinance, which had its first reading Monday night. A second reading, which City Administrator James Drinkard said is set to be held on Feb. 25, has to be approved for the funds to be budgeted and spent.  The …
