Sweet Hound Looking for a Home

Jaffe is available for adoption from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.

Meet "Jaffe," a male Hound-mix dog who is 4 to 5 years old and weighs approximately 78 pounds. This boy is a tad overweight right now, but his foster is helping him slim down a bit.  The vet says ideally he should weigh about 60 pounds. He was obviously overfed by his previous owners. He is neutered, house and crate-trained, up-to-date on shots and vetting and is microchipped.  Jaffe is good with non-reactive, easygoing dogs but he's not been around felines, so we don't know how he would react – most hound mixes find them fun to chase, so probably no kitties for his home.  He adores humans and attention from them.  This boy is okay with kids, but does best with older ones who know not to jerk bones and toys out of his mouth.  He can get a …

Playful Ginger Looks for Frisbee Thrower

Ginger is this week's Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus Pet of the Week.

Ginger is a beautiful shepherd mix who is looking to finally find her forever home. At eight months old, she is already 58 pounds and still has some growing left to do. She will be a large dog and is very active and playful. Ginger would love to find someone committed to helping her learn basic obedience while taking the time to help her spend all her energy. Ginger is smart and loves to please so she would make an excellent candidate for obedience classes. She would also be a good running buddy. Among her favorite things are rope toys and Frisbees. She loves to leap after them and will occasionally request a round of tug-of-war with the rope. Ginger loves other dogs and will cheerfully try to play with any that come along. However, she …

Fluffy Jade Just Wants a Family

Jade is the Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus' pet of the week.

Jade, Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus' pet of the week, is a beautiful, domestic medium hair mix with bright, green eyes. She has grey tabby stripes and is front declawed. Jade is very sweet and loves to have her soft fur petted. Since her fur is long and fluffy, it will be important for her future family to brush her frequently. At five years old, Jade is ready to find her forever family and is eager to meet you. Although Jade might enjoy being an only cat, she does currently have a kitty roommate who she peacefully co-exists with. She is also a chatty lady and will cheerfully meow and purr when you enter her room. Bring your whole family down to meet this sweet girl and see if you fall in love. She has been vaccinated, micro-…

Peanut, a Sweet Brown Tabby, Waits for Her New Family

This petite cat needs her own home, and can be adopted at the Atlanta Humane Society Mansell Campus.

Peanut is a sweet, brown tabby cat who is currently waiting at the Atlanta Humane Society Mansell Campus for her perfect family to come and take her home. She is a petite lady weighing only six pounds at one and a half years old. Peanut came to the Atlanta Humane Society as a mama cat and has since watched her kittens get the homes of their dreams. Now that her job as mommy is finished, she is ready for her chance to find a family of her own.  She is a little nervous and shy about living at the shelter but is very friendly and loves to be petted. She has lived with other cats at the shelter and done well with her kitty roommates. Peanut would do best in a home that understands her shy nature and is willing to give her time to adjust to her…

Sweet Kora Looks for Somebody to Love

Kora is this week's Pet of the Week at the Atlanta Humane Society - Mansell Campus.

Kora is a beautiful Chinese Shar-Pei, Labrador Retriever mix currently residing at the Atlanta Humane Society’s Mansell campus. Currently Kora is our most “senior” resident at ten and a half years old, but you would never know it by taking her out to play. She is loving and fun and enjoys running around and playing with the people who visit her. Kora wants nothing more than to move on from her shelter life to find her forever home. Kora walks nicely on a leash and would make a great walking buddy. She loves people and other dogs but is not as fond of cats and would do best in a home with no small animals. She enjoys a good ear scratch and cuddling up to those she loves. Kora is also quite intelligent quickly learning basic commands …

He loves everyone he meets and enjoys best the people who are willing to spend time playing with him and petting him. Since his hair is so long and full, it will be important for his future owners to take the time to brush him daily. Freezing Rain Won't Keep Volunteers Away from Animals

Dedicated people make it to the Atlanta Humane Society's Mansell Campus in Alpharetta, and local residents can adopt pets no matter the weather.

The weather in North Georgia can be unpredictable, even leading to the closing of several local school districts when icy precipitation is feared. But the threat of a winter ice storm doesn't slow down the daily activities at the Atlanta Humane Society Mansell Campus, or their volunteers. Karla Slocumb, the center's marketing manager, took a moment to share with Patch a bit of how AHS handles winter weather. Patch: How does weather affect your operations? Slocumb: Sometimes we see a decrease in foot traffic, as people might be less likely to get out in the pouring rain or freezing cold. But as far as taking care of the animals, the weather never stops us from making sure they get outside to go potty! P: Does freezing rain keep volunteers …
