Man Helping Cut Down Trees Dies After Branch Hits His Head

The victim and two coworkers were working for the Ed Isakson-Alpharetta Family YMCA when the accident happened.

A 41-year-old Doraville man died a day after part of a tree he was helping to cut down struck him on his head. Misael Soriano Elorza was working with two other Downey Tree employees at the Ed Isakson-Alpharetta Family YMCA on the morning of April 26 to cut down some trees in the area, according to an Alpharetta Department of Public Safety incident report. His coworker, Feliciano Garcia, had been cutting a large tree at its base when it fell and hit Elorza, who was trying to guide the tree down with help from fellow Downey Trees employee Samuel Lunsford. As the tree came down, it broke in half and hit Elorza in the head from behind. The large tree had a Y-shaped branch that broke in half and struck Elorza. The force of the blow knocked him …

UPDATE: Duluth Man Dies in Alpharetta Water Line Accident

The 49-year-old victim was working for a Fulton County subcontractor installing water lines when the accident occurred.

UPDATED: 6:20 p.m.: A construction worker died in an accident at McGinnis Ferry Road and Windward Concourse early this afternoon, according to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. Manuel Aguirre, 49, of Duluth, was run over by a backhoe at around noon today, Feb. 27. He was dead on the scene, said George Gordon, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. The victim was working for B&H Construction Co., a subcontractor on a Fulton County water project. The company was laying water lines. Forsyth County was first called to the scene, but first responders realized the location was in Alpharetta, so the city got the call. "So we are handling the investigation," Gordon said. Sheriff's Office Identifies Worker Killed at Chicken Plant

The 37-year-old man was killed on Tuesday at the Pilgrim's Pride chicken plant in Canton.

The man who was killed in a Tuesday afternoon accident at the Pilgrim's Pride chicken plant has been identified by Cherokee County authorities. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has named Christopher Chin, 37, of Canton, as the victim of the accident. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the accident that killed Chin. Lt. Jay Baker of the Sheriff's Office also said that OSHA had been notified of the accident.

OSHA Proposes $55,000 in Fines Against Alpharetta Contractor

An Alpharetta general contractor has been cited by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for 14 safety violations with $55,440 in proposed fines following an inspection at a restaurant construction site in Tifton. OSHA has cited general contractor Ganaway Contracting Co. Inc. of Alpharetta after conducting its inspection as part of a local emphasis program on protecting workers from falls in the construction industry.
