The Art and Creative Club at Northwestern Middle School is only a few days away from revealing a mural being created at the school by students in the first semester of the program. The first semester has been a 12-week program that feature that mural project, which will be installed on a wall in Northwestern’s sustainable garden in time for the unveiling. Classes are being taught by Maureen Engle, a professional artist and painter with more than 25 years of experience. Students meet each Tuesday after school to work on their panels. The city, the Fulton Schools System and Crabapple Community Association helped kick off the holiday season and the park opening on Saturday afternoon.
Friendship Community Park is the name chosen for Milton's first new park in its six years of existence. The name was revealed in a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 1 that came as part of the Christmas in Crabapple celebration. The two-acre pocket park was the dream of Crabapple Crossing Elementary Principal George Freiberger for eight years. It took the formation of the city to make that happen, said Fulton County School Board member Katie Reeves. This pocket park is a partnership with Fulton County Schools. Nestled between Crabapple Crossing Elementary and Northwestern Middle schools, it will be used by both. The middle school will use it as a classroom while the elementary school will use it as a playground.

The park opening is tied in with Christmas in Crabapple activities.
Milton's first brand new park opens on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Crabapple in a celebration that ties in with the fifth annual Christmas in Crabapple. "We've got nearly two acres of space, we have walking trails, we have open play space," said Interim Parks and Recreation Director Jim Cregge. The free Georgia Movies in the Park series resumes in Milton on Saturday at Northwestern Middle School, with "Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked" on the outdoor screen. The free family festival and outdoor movie event will run monthly on June 2, July 7 and Aug. 4. Activities begin at 7 p.m., with the movies starting at sundown. According to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Solar Calculator, sunset will be at 8:44 p.m. Families in Milton will be able to enjoy a festival full of free children's activities before the outdoor movie begins at sundown.
