Alpharetta Kicks Off Holiday Season in Front of Huge Crowd

The 35th annual Christmas Tree Lighting event started with holiday-themed entertainment from North Point Community Church before Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived and the tree was lit.

It took two stages for all of the events in Alpharetta's Christmas Tree Lighting to be held, with North Point Community Church using the larger, "lower" stage near Canton Street for its music and entertainment. Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle not only brought his children on stage for the traditional reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to the crowd. He also had them join in the reading. Then it was time for the tree to light up the mini park at North Main and Milton Avenue, just behind the stage. Alpharetta Christian Academy, Rhythm and Shoes, and Maddie Monroe also provided entertainment.

Thanks to Melissa Vater at Alpharetta Christian Academy for reminding me that more groups in addition to North Point Community Church were involved in the festivities and entertainment. If you have some good photos from the Tree Lighting, add them to this article!   more ›

Georgia Labor Commissioner Advises Local Job Seekers

Mark Butler was in Alpharetta to meet with participants in this C3G event.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler was in Alpharetta Thursday afternoon to meet with some residents in the job market, offering them advice and resources. Butler said the state's unemployment dropped slightly in the past month. Though that was a small drop, he said improvements in some sectors have been seen, particularly the seasonal retail positions. The North Atlanta area is seeing improvements as well, he said during his stop at Roam Atlanta for this C3G event. View the video for more on his comments. C3G (Christ Centered Career Groups) meets every Monday morning from 7:45-9:45 a.m. at North Point Community Church's Theater.
