Modest Growth Predicted for North Fulton Schools

School board members ask if 5-year projections for Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton and Roswell schools are too modest.

Fulton County Schools are projected to grow enrollment by nearly 5,500 students over the next five years with comparable growth among the North Fulton, Sandy Springs and South Fulton areas, the school district predicts.  However, some school board members are asking if the projected growth in North Fulton is too modest. In North Fulton, which includes Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton, an increase in new home closures has led the school system to project some growth in schools in the region. "In North Fulton County, the number of new home closures is on the rise," Yngrid Huff, executive director of the district’s Operational Planning department, told the school board. Milton Beats Alpharetta 35-28 in High School Football

The Eagles held off a threat by the Raiders to snatch victory from the visitors in the final two minutes of play.

Belle Isle and his counterpart in Milton, Joe Lockwood, had a bet in the first "Mayor's Matchup" that the mayor whose team lost would go to the other school and serve lunch one day. The Alpharetta High Raiders scored twice in the final two minutes of the game to threaten the Milton High Eagles, but fell short in the end. According to the statistics supplied by the "Milton Stats Guy," Bill Berry, Alpharetta got into the end zone first. A six-yard pass from Josh Gobbs to Rodney Morris put the Raiders on the board, and Thomas Waller's PAT made the score 0-7. The …

Milton's Graduation Rate Tops in North Fulton

Alpharetta, Milton and the rest of the traditional high schools scored above the state average, with only Roswell High falling below Fulton County's average.

Graduation rates for Georgia's four-year public high schools have been released, and most North Fulton schools are way above the state average. Milton High turns out graduates at a rate almost 30 percent higher than the state average. The Georgia Department of Education released the new, four-year public high school graduation rate: 67.4 percent. The new calculation, known as the adjusted cohort rate, will allow states to uniformly compare graduation rates across the nation. Graduation rates may appear to have dropped with the new method even though more students have graduated. “The new formula provides a more accurate, uniform look at how many students we are graduating from high school,” said State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge…
