Milton Cross Country Team Opens Season With Records, Victories

Senior Annie Kelly breaks school record by one minute, while Nate Riech broke an Eagles' record by 30 seconds.

The Eagles of Milton began their 2012 campaign with a trip to Clinton Farms Nature Preserve in Douglasville for the Bob Blastow/Early Bird Invitational and came away with four team victories and a pair of new school records. Varsity Girls Dominant in Victory Milton entered the meet as the pre-season No. 4 ranked All-Class and No. 2 ranked AAAAAA team, proving their mettle by easily dispatching 14 schools on the way to victory. The Lady Eagles (64 points) beat back No. 5 ranked All-Class Landmark Christian (No. 1 ranked A-Private, Fairburn) by 39 points. Cross-town rival Centennial finished a distant third (151 points). Milton, Alpharetta Kick Off Football Season

The Cambridge High Bears open their first season as the school opens.

Alpharetta High will host Milton High in their football season opener on Aug. 31, according to a schedule released by the GA High School Association. The 6-AAAAAA Milton Eagles have their home opener a week later against Johns Creek, the first of three home games against North Fulton opponents. Alpharetta's Raiders, in 5-AAAAAA, hit the road for two weeks, and then settle into a schedule that has every other game at home, starting with games against three Forsyth County high schools. Milton High defeated Harrison 73-52 during the semi-finals at the Gwinnett Arena on Thursday. Milton will advance to the state championship game today, March 9. The Eagles will play Savannah at 8:45 p.m. at Gwinnett Arena. Tickets are $10 for all the games today, which include the boys and girls AAAAA finals, the AAAA finals and the wheelchair finals, which kick off the day of basketball at 12:15 p.m. The Blue Jackets defeated Milton's North Fulton rival, the Alpharetta Raiders, in the other semifinal AAAAA game Thursday night.

Milton Eagles Face Harrison Tonight Without a Mann

Tonight's semifinal Georgia AAAAA boys' basketball game will be a different game without the top-ranked Eagles' starting point guard on the floor.

The Milton Eagles, perennial playoff powers in boys basketball, head into the semifinals of the state AAAAA GHSA tournament at Gwinnett Arena tonight, playing Harrison High. The school plans for a "Red Out," with Milton High fans wearing red for the 8:30 p.m. game. Milton beat North Gwinnett 80-58 last week to enter into the semifinals. If Alpharetta wins its semifinal earlier in the night, and the Eagles prevail against Harrison, it will be an all "Alpharetta-Milton Patch" final. Milton fans and players will know who would join them in the finals, as the Raiders play at 5:30 p.m. Milton is playing the rest of the tournament without the services of point guard Charles Mann, who was called for two technical fouls in the quarterfinals. Milton Eagles Advance in State Basketball Playoffs

The Eagles beat the Shiloh Generals 72-52, and will face North Gwinnett on Saturday.

Milton High advances in the state basketball playoffs with its win Wednesday night, Feb. 29, against the Shiloh Generals, 72-52. Tevin Glass again had an outstanding game, leading all scorers with 25 points. Three other Eagles were in double figures as well. Shaquille Johnson and Charles Mann each had 14 points, with Jalyn Patterson putting in 10. Evan Nolte added 9 points to close out the scoring for Milton. CJ Keyes and Robert Carter Jr. each had 10 points for the Generals. Trayvon Reed put in 9 points and Jordan Gaither had 8. The Eagles came out in the second half ahead, 37-25, which might explain why they were a little flat in the third period. Wheeler Gives No. 1 Milton a Scare

Tevin Glass scores 19 points in the second half to lead the Eagles to a 65-60 win.

Top-ranked Milton’s visit to Wheeler turned into a battle of senior big men Tevin Glass and Chuck Mitchell. Wheeler's Mitchell won the battle Saturday night, but Milton won the AAAAA war in East Cobb, 65-60. It was the 14th consecutive win for Milton (18-4), whose only on-court loss came at home Dec. 10 against Tift County, 57-52. But it was the first time all season that the Eagles won by fewer than 11 points. Against Wheeler (10-8), Milton never led by more than 11. “Won tonight over a talented and young Wheeler team,” Milton Coach David Boyd tweeted. Milton Eagles Champs at Beach Ball Classic in 70-42 Win

The Eagles took the lead in the first half and held their opponents to 33 percent shooting.

In its first-ever trip to the Beach Ball Classic, Milton scored a 70-42 win over Lone Peak to capture the 2011 Championship. Milton took the lead for good with 5:35 to play in the opening half and went on to open leads as large as 28 points.  Lone Peak connected on just two 3-point baskets the entre game and shot just 33.3 percent from the field. Evan Nolte, the BBC's Most Valuable Player, led Milton with 20 points.  Shaquille Johnson added 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Eagles. The Milton Eagles face off against Lone Peak of Highland, UT in the championship game of the 31st annual Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach at 7:30 p.m. today, Dec. 31. You can watch the game live online at the Beach Ball Classic website. Milton scored early and often in route to an impressive 77-56 victory over Bishop Gorman and the nation's top rated player in Shabazz Muhammad on Friday.  The win put the Eagles into the championship game against Whitney Young. Lone Peak advanced to the championship game of the 31st Annual Beach Ball Classic with a 72-67 double overtime victory over Whitney Young. The game featured nine ties, 15 lead changes and neither team led by more than seven points at any time.
