Does MARTA Need to Provide Transit from McGinnis Ferry Road South?

The public is being asked to offer opinions on high-capacity transit that could reach the Forsyth County line in North Fulton at a meeeting in Roswell on Thursday, March 21.

Hoping to get input from the community, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will host a public meeting on Thursday, March 21, south of Alpharetta and Milton in Roswell to review the Georgia 400 Corridor Transit Initiative.   The GA 400 Corridor Transit Initiative: Alternatives Analysis involves investigating the need for high-capacity transit connections between the Perimeter Center area near the interchange of I-285 and GA 400 in the City of Sandy Springs and McGinnis Ferry Road in northern Fulton County. The corridor draws commuters from throughout the region, with many commuter trips bound for central Atlanta, Gwinnett, and Cobb counties. "These conditions have created high levels of traffic congestion on GA 400 and…

Check your history. Marta was not welcome north of I-285 for many years and those comunities continue to seperate themselves from Fulton county. Why do these countys continue to drain Fulton's resourses? Ga 400 was ment to address the traffic issues in that area along with other improvments. The water quality down stream in South Fulton is also suffering negative effects due to the heavy …   more ›

New GA 400 Interchange at McGinnis Ferry?

A proposal to construct a new interchange on Georgia 400 is in the works.

A new interchange on Georgia 400 and McGinnis Ferry Road may be on the horizon, according to a press release from the Georgia House of Representatives. The Georgia Department of Transportation on Thursday approved an Interchange Justification Report (IJR) on the proposed project much to the delight of the Forsyth County Legislative Delegation. State lawmakers from Forsyth, North Fulton, Dawson, Cherokee and Lumpkin counties, who make up the delegation, have long supported the road project. “We are very pleased that this important new interchange received approval from the Federal Highway Administration and GDOT," the delegation said. Hopefully, the DOT will immediately start work on a Kimball Bridge Road exchange next. That will save me some commuting time and hopefully develop more of Kimball Bridge Road area next to 400. That area is an eyesore compared to the rest of the community.   more ›

Alpharetta Will Repair McGinnis Ferry, Waters Road Bridges

The city will consider letting the contractor close McGinnis Ferry Road for one weekend to speed repairs and lower the cost of those repairs.

If a contractor repairing a bridge on McGinnis Ferry Road was allowed to close the road on a single weekend, it could save the city some money and time in fixing the structure. Alpharetta City Council approved the lone bid by the L.C. Whitford Co. for the repair and maintenance of the McGinnis Ferry Road Bridge over Big Creek and the Waters Road Bridge over Long Indian Creek in the amount of $498,877. Pete Sewczwicz, director of Engineering/Public Works, told City Council on Monday night that if that section of McGinnis Ferry could be shut down for a weekend, the city would still have to coordinate it with Forsyth County. "We own half the road, but 100 percent of the bridge," he said. Getting a single bid was disappointing, but Sewczwicz …

Water Main Pipe Project Along McGinnis Ferry Road May Affect Traffic

Flagmen will occasionally be directing traffic on the section of road between Bethany Bend in Milton and Windward Concourse in Alpharetta.

Although a water main pipe project along less than one mile of McGinnis Ferry Road will be completely off road in the right of way, it still will interrupt traffic at times between now and Aug. 15. Work crews from the Fulton County Department of Water Resources are installing 5,160 linear feet of 16-inch diameter water main pipe along McGinnis Ferry Road. The project starts from Bethany Bend within the City of Milton and proceeds east across GA 400 into the City of Alpharetta. The pipe will turn right off of McGinnis Ferry onto Windward Concourse and then right on Alderman Drive. Daily activities will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. No water service interruptions are planned for this project, which is scheduled to be completed by Aug…
