Lake Lanier Plans Boating Safety Event

Law enforcement agencies will be participating in the event in May.

With the 2013 summer boating and recreational season near, authorities at Lake Lanier are gearing up to stress boating safety. A Boating Safety Awareness Day will be held at Lake Lanier on Saturday, May 18, from 10-4 p.m., to help increase awareness of boating safety issues, according to a news release from lake officials. The event will be held at the Sunset Cove area in nearby Buford. Several local law enforcement agencies will attend, as well as lake partner agencies and local retailers, the release said. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct complimentary vessel safety inspections. Boating safety concerns have increased after several high-profile deaths occurred on the lake in 2012. Dive Teams Continue Search for Drowning Victim

Divers continue their search for a 44-year-old man believed to have drowned near Lake Lanier Islands.

Divers from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recovery Team continue search efforts today for a 44-year-old man who is believed to have drowned in Lake Lanier just after midnight Saturday (Aug. 18), according to Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the HCSO. The team’s activity will be limited to sonar searches only due to heavy weekend boat traffic in the area, which creates hazardous dive conditions. Crews will mark likely sonar targets for closer inspection when dive operations resume on Monday morning. Jeffrey Nause apparently went into the water from a boat to take a swim, according to deputies who responded to the vicinity of Lake Lanier Islands regarding a report of a drowning. Kile Glover, the son of entertainment superstar Usher's ex-wife, reportedly has died after being removed from life support. According to the Huffington Post, the entertainment website TMZ reported that Glover's mother, Tameka Foster, allegedly made the tough decision after being told that a full recovery was not likely. Kile Glover, the son of Usher's ex-wife who was critically injured at Lake Lanier earlier in July, may have to be taken off life support, according to media reports. The entertainment website TMZ has reported that Tameka Raymond will be forced to take her son off life support as early as next month because his insurance coverage is about to expire. -- How do you feel about this critical decision? Lanier Divers Resume Search for Missing Teen

Additional high-tech help is available in the search for Griffin Prince.

More high-tech help was expected as divers resumed the search Monday for missing Griffin Prince at Lake Lanier. WSB-TV.com reported that the FBI will bring in new equipment Monday that will allow divers to stay under water for more than six minutes at a time in an effort to complete their search. A candlelight vigil was held for Griffin and his brother, Jake. Previously, an underwater remote device was shipped in from California to aid in the search. Prince, 13, of Buford has been missing since last week's boating collision, which also took the life of his brother Jake, 9. Paul J.
