Milton to Begin Spending on Historic Hopewell House

The City Council is scheduled to consider a construction design bid for what is planned to be the Milton Senior Center on Monday night.

The historic Hopewell House is on its way to renovations for use as a senior center, and Milton City Council is scheduled to select a firm to design and manage the construction on Monday night at their 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall. The city has offered the historic Hopewell House for the Milton Senior Center. The house dates back to the 1800s, with documentation back to the 1830s, and some evidence for the 1820s. City staff recommends accepting Wiley & Wilson's bid of $115,500. For that bid, the firm would be expected to: The project consists of renovating a historic residential structure which is elgible for inclusion onto the National Register of Historic Places. Fulton Funds Milton Senior Center

The city will renovate the historic Hopwell House for its use as a community center.

Milton will be getting a new senior center with $295,000 in funds from Fulton County, thanks to Commissioner Liz Hausmann. Hausmann's action put the funds into the county budget for operations of a Milton Senior Center, saying it will add much-needed senior services in North Fulton. "I am glad to have this opportunity to add to the quality of life for older adults living in the Milton community. There is definitely an unmet need for quality senior programming. Fulton County Considers Grants for Milton, Alpharetta

Milton would use a grant to renovate Hopewell House, while Alpharetta plans to help low-income residents with home repairs.

Milton and Alpharetta are seeking grant funds from Fulton County to renovate the Hopewell House and to help low-income residents with home repairs. The grants would originate with the Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department’s Office of Housing and Community Development. The department has opened the review and comment period for the Annual Action Plan for FY 2013 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Programs, and both the 2012 and 2013 Draft Amendments. The review and comment period will be open until Sept. 14. There will be a final opportunity for public comment during the public comment period of the Sept. 19 meeting Board of Commissioners.
