Do you stop at your car to put holiday gifts in the back seat or trunk as you move from store to store? Do you park your car, get out and put valuables in the trunk before going inside the mall? Both of those are invitations to thieves trolling through our communities' major shopping areas. Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman George Gordon today sent out a reminder to residents that the holidays are the “season of choice” for those who want to commit property crimes. "By taking a few proactive steps, you, the citizen, can lessen your chances of becoming a victim," Gordon said. As an editor I try not to be part of a story, but reading crime reports from Alpharetta and Milton has prompted me to warn shoppers who have left their …

Black Friday shopping isn't for the faint of heart. But if you're already ad prioritizing and store strategizing, the fact that several area big-box retailers are gearing up to open their doors even earlier this year - starting Thanksgiving Day - won't surprise you. Last week, Walmart announced that it would open its doors at 8 p.m. on that Thursday, Nov. 22 and offer holiday doorbusters, while supplies last. These include deals on TVs, iPads, an electric scooter for $79 and a steam mop for $39. But its not alone. Target, some Old Navy stores, K-Mart, Toys R Us and Sears are planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. Target's deals begin an hour later, at 9 p.m. According to an ad leaked online, the best deals will be for a Nook, TVs, a …

The after Christmas sales are in full swing and shoppers are hitting the stores for the best bargains locally.
Today, and possible going into this week, those who wish to brave the malls and shopping centers are going to find some incredible shopping bargains. These deals are so great that I have recently learned that some families have even resorted to giving notes to loved ones telling them of the big ticket items that they will receive from the post holiday sale because hitting the pre-Chrstmas sale didn't slash the price enough. Research this morning on which stores will have the best sales is showing me that just about everything and every store will be discounted. Christmas will be 50 percent off at almost every store today. Whether you are looking to fill stocking for kids from the local pharmacy stores for more family gatherings this week …

Alpharetta families can spend quality time together decorating with what Mother Nature has given us in our own backyards.
Winter is in full swing and with all of the gift buying, house decorating and parties that keep us moving and spending, it is hard to remember to take the time to enjoy the season. It does not matter what holidays you celebrate this month or if you do any at all. Winter is the perfect time to decorate your home, get the kids involved and save money while being festive. Decorating the yard is something that so many of us are doing right now. The lights are everywhere and they are spectacular. If you have not bought these yet and still want to light up the walkways, trees and your home, head over to Home Depot. Many of the smaller stores are very limited on selection about now and the light sections are getting picked over, but Home Depot …

Simple mistakes open the door for thieves to ruin the season, but the cities provide tips on how to prevent crime.
For many, the holiday season is a time for merriment and cheer. But the harsh reality is that it’s also a time of increased criminal activity. Local police are trying to combat that by sharing helpful tips with residents about staying safe. In this Month’s “Milton E-Round Up”, the Milton Police Department provides readers with plenty oh helpful tips on staying safe both at home and on the go. Milton’s Community Outreach and Policy Coordinator, Dennis Nelson, knows that the holiday season can be stressful. That’s when criminal’s look for opportunities to steal from or harm their victims. “He/she lies in waiting for us to make simple mistakes that create opportunities for him or her to steal or cause us personal harm. Don't add being the …

Mall and big store coupons are available for Black Friday to use on top of the great sales going on today.
Black Friday is here and the sales are everywhere. Whatever you are looking for, odd are, it is on sale some place today or this weekend. Make the deals even better when you present printable coupons at the register. If you are already out and about when you see the coupon you need, pull it up on your phone. I have yet to be turned down at a retail store when I show them my phone with a coupon on it. They will either scan my phone and the bar code will pull up or they will manually enter a coupon. It is worth a try if you ever forget the coupons you need when out shopping at retail stores. Abercrombie is giving 50 percent off of their store when you print this page through Nov, 27. Aeropostale will give $25 off of a $100 purchase through …
