Alpharetta Goalie Holds NC State Scoreless in GSU Men's Soccer

Cochran manages a fourth shutout this season.

Raleigh, N.C.—Freshman C.J. Cochran held NC State scoreless as sophomore midfielder Jamal Keene buried the match’s lone goal in the 11th minute to lead the Georgia State men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory at NC State Tuesday night. The win was Georgia State’s (6-2-2) first ever victory over NC State (3-4-2) in three tries and was its first win over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since travelling to No. 6 Clemson and upsetting the Tigers 2-1 on Sept. 5, 2001. Keene, a sophomore transfer student, scored his first goal in a GSU uniform and became the eighth player to score a goal for GSU this season. Keene teamed with classmate Stephen McGill on a give-and-go from just outside the 18-yard box to spring the early chance for GSU. Keene …

Alpharetta Goalie Helps Keep Delaware Out of Goal Until Last Minute

Georgia State men's soccer team loses for the first time in five games.

A goal in the 89th minute was enough to end the Georgia State men’s soccer team’s five-match unbeaten streak as the Panthers fell at Delaware 1-0 Saturday night. GSU (5-2-1, 0-1) goalkeeper C.J. Cochran of Alpharetta once again made several key stops throughout to keep the match scoreless until the waning minutes. His diving, finger tip save at the 3:29 mark helped fought away a golden chance for Delaware to take an early lead. The Panthers fought back in the second half after starting slow in the first. “I thought we played a great second half, we created a lot of opportunities,” GSU head coach Brett Surrency said, “We had some chances and we just couldn’t put them away.” The Panthers also had chances to strike first in their Colonial …
