Updated 12:30 p.m. Storm Disrupts Duluth Festivities – Duluth Patch Wind and heavy rain interrupted “Duluth Celebrates America” at Scott Hudgens Park Tuesday (July 3) evening. The fireworks will be rescheduled for later this summer. Canopies and umbrellas erected to provide shade from the summer sun became shelters for disappointed celebrants to huddle under as they tracked the thunderstorm on their cell phones and waited for it to pass. Individual “sunbrellas” turned into “rainbrellas.” Hastily donned plastic rain slickers and windbreakers provided little relief from the storm that came up quickly. The wind toppled a couple of the canopies. Many scurried to their cars as intermittent raindrops turned into a deluge and lightning began …

Services were held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church this morning, Tuesday, July 19.
Hundreds turned out for the funeral services held Tuesday morning at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for Brittney Watts, the 26-year-old woman fatally shot in Midtown Atlanta on Friday. From the somber atmosphere, it was apparent that the loss of Watts–a native of Roswell and graduate of both Roswell High School and the University of Georgia–had a significant impact on her hometown of Roswell. The woman friends say was always so positive and upbeat had only recently returned to the Atlanta area, moving into a Decatur neighborhood with her husband. Watts was laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery off Alpharetta Highway immediately following the service.
