The Fulton County Board of Education voted to terminate the public school's charter, and that decision is on appeal with the state school board.
Fulton Science Academy High School has asked the Georgia Board of Education to hold off in making a ruling on its charter termination appeal until it has a chance to find out if it can get a state charter instead. Rocco E. Testni of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, the law firm representing the school, sent a letter dated April 9 to the state board asking for the deferral. The Fulton County School System voted to terminate the public school's charter earlier this year, saying the school had the same lack of management and fiscal problems as Fulton Science Academy Middle School had before it lost its charter renewal bid. An audit report by a consultant for the school system said low enrollment contributed to the school’s inability to …

The Creek View Elementary School music department recently performed “Once Upon a Mattress” for parents and friends of the Creek View Community. Pictured here are two scenes from the play showing Creek View students singing and dancing. The costumes and set would not have been possible if not for the many volunteer hours from Creek View parents, students and staff. The play was a huge success and enjoyed by all, according to Fran Gerlich of the school's staff. Share your school's activities with your neighbors on Alpharetta-Milton Patch. Promote them in the Calendar of Events, and then post photos and news about what's going on in the announcements online.

Dear Editor, The recent events in Connecticut have shaken us all, making us realize just how precious a young life is and how we have a great responsibility to protect it. This tragedy is a parent’s and an educator’s worst nightmare. While parents have always carefully dropped their children off at school or to the bus stop, they may now hesitate, taking one last moment to hug or kiss their child before they send him or her along the way. School employees are now more alert and aware of unusual people and sounds, and law enforcement officers and first responders are extra watchful in protecting those they serve. Though national headlines have alarmed us, we should be reminded that school violence of this magnitude is very rare. It’s …

When tax money is involved there should be no segregation by groups, both should be allowed to have a group. IMO if this "group" is trying to promote tolerance, dialogue, intercultural studies I would call it ASIT, American Students Interscholastic Tournament. Then they would truly be working together and not seperating by religion, race, aptitute or anything else. This should be turned over to …   more ›
