Freezing Rain Advisory Issued by National Weather Service

Friday morning could offer too much excitement if the freezing rain that is in the forecast hits our area.

The city of Alpharetta is urging motorist to be careful driving on Friday, when winter weather is forecat that includes a mix of sleet and freezing rain moving into the area at 5 a.m. The National Weather Services's latest forecast says the chance for freezing rain is 60 percent. The wintry weather mix could continue through early afternoon on Friday. The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday for parts of the state that include the area west and south of a line from Ellijay to Cumming to Gainesville – which includes North Fulton. Freezing Rain Could Accompany Friday's Below Normal Cold

The freezing rain and sleet forecast could be another "false alarm, depending on the timing of an Arctic airmass and the arrival of moisture from the west and southwest. So check the forecast closer to Friday.

Temperatures will be well below normal on Friday, so even if we don't get the freezing rain or sleet that's in the National Weather Service forecast, you'll still want to be bundled up. The high forecast for Friday is 36 degrees, not much above freezing. But with wind gusts up to 15 mph, it will feel even colder. Freezing rain and sleet are likely before 4 p.m. on Friday, then rain is likely. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. An east wind of 5 to 10 mph will become light south in the afternoon.
