Fishing Derby Turns Kids Into Anglers

Children ages 4-12 can compete in a Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday in Brookside Office Park's lake.

Young anglers get the stocked lake at Brookside Office Park all to themselves on Saturday morning. It's time for the annual Youth Fishing Derby for children ages 4-12. The lake will be stocked with catfish and bream, and prizes will be awarded for the longest fish and most caught. This program is a catch and release event, so don't make plans to fry your catch! The derby will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, and end at 11 a.m. Participants must bring their own fishing gear and bait, and must be accompanied by an adult. Brookside Office Park is on Old Milton Parkway a half mile east of GA 400 and past the North Point Parkway intersection. Register early since space is limited. Readers' Choice: Crabapple Bed and Bones

But Wolfbrook Dog Club & Park missed its chance at winning Best Pet Boarding/Day Care because it was left off the list.

The readers have spoken, and they've said, "Hey, Patch editor, you left out our favorite pet boarding location." And they are correct, I did leave out at least one facility, and included a few that shouldn't be on the survey. In fairness to those businesses in the Readers' Choice Best Pet Boarding/Day Care survey a winner will be announced, but keep reading to learn more about another facility. Crabapple Bed and Bones is the official winner of this week's Readers' Choice. Here's what one reader said about them: Have been using them since 1999. They are the best...would never think of going anywhere else! – joanne Numerous Patch readers called to my attention that Wolfbrook Dog Club & Park on New Providence Road was left off the list, and …

America's Supernanny Wants to Help Alpharetta Families

Producers of the hit show will be in the Atlanta area to cast for the next season, and local families can ask for her help.

America's Supernanny is casting families for the next season of the show, and is sending producers to the Alpharetta area to find them. The Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) reports that the hit parenting series contacted them looking to cast families. The ACVB heads local efforts to bring film productions into Alpharetta and regularly receives inquiries from various entertainment companies considering the area for projects. This upcoming season’s producers are searching for families with unique circumstances and challenges to cast on America's Supernanny. The challenges parents may be struggling with could include disrespectful behavior; “tween” and teen issues; mean girls or bullying boys; and blended families where both …

Come back Monday and pick your choice for getting a frozen treat in your town.

Who says you have to leave the area to take a vacation? Patch readers in the northeast suburbs last week had plenty of options to choose from in picking a favorite "staycation" destination. Readers Say Lake Lanier Best Place for a Staycation

In our Readers' Choice survey the nearby lake was the winner.

It appears that Alpharetta and Milton residents don't want to be limited to staying at home for their vacations this summer, but we have a winner in this week's Readers' Choice Survey. Lake Lanier is the destination that collected the most votes. With fishing, boating, swimming, personal watercraft, campgrounds and hiking–plus the occasional chilly Polar Bear dip into the lake in the colder months for charity–there's much to do for families. Interested in fishing? If you don't have a boat or a friend with one, you can find plenty of fishing guides to take you out or rent a boat. And even after the housing bust and economic downturn, quite a few people kept their second homes on the lake. Chattahoochee Nature Center also picked up a few …

That's why this week we ask for our Readers' Choice of Best Staycation. Some of these choices might not seem too obvious, but did you know people travel from all over the Southeast, and even from farther away, to visit American Girl? Local hotels such as the Windward Marriott have special rooms for the girls whose parents bring them to Alpharetta. Have a favorite place to take the family for a day of fun? Vote below in our poll. Life Time Fitness Wins Readers' Choice Award

The large facility was the pick for Best Place to Work Out.

If all the members of Life Time Fitness had voted the center probably would have won the Readers' Choice for Best Place to Work Out. Not that many did, but those who chose it were enough for the facility just off North Point Parkway to take the prize. Featuring indoor and outdoor pools, studios for yoga, pilates and many other fitness regimens, a climbing wall, basketball courts, squash courts, a spa, his and hers lockerrooms–and a familly lockerroom–plus a child center that can even be used for birthday parties–there's not much Life Time Fitness doesn't have. And to navigate the facility and how to use it to get fit, there's a large number of trainers always on duty. And did we mention it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Our …
