Hands-on activities help families learn about curriculum.

Manning Oaks Elementary School in Alpharetta had its first Curriculum Fair on March 7. During the event, the school bubbled with excitement as students and parents enjoyed hands-on activities and curriculum presentations in the cafeteria and an interactive science program in the gymnasium, said the school's Paula Boston. The event was designed to be like a fair – where the parents and students chose what they wanted to do and had fun doing it. Each family had an itinerary that gave them the opportunity to select activities and presentations that were the most pertinent for their child. They were also encouraged to visit booths that were a grade level higher than their child’s current grade. All of the activities were led by students (with …

Creek View Elementary's Principal Reports No Problems at Start of Classes

Growing enrollment will provide challenges in the classroom and the front office, Matt Rogers said.

After the first day of school, Patch sent Creek View Elementary School Principal Matt Rogers a few questions about the start of the new school year. How did things go this morning? Did the carpool work with the extra moms and dads dropping off kids who probably will be on the bus tomorrow? Rogers: Car pool worked very well! We had additional staff to monitor the process in order to provide a safe arrival for all families this morning. It was wonderful to see so many parents with cameras snapping photos of the excitement of the first day of school. Were there any unexpected glitches? Rogers: We had no glitches at Creek View. We even conducted our first fire drill that was very successful. How many new teachers and/or staff do you have this …

Eight Schools in Alpharetta, Milton Will Start School Year With New Leaders

Retirements and transfers bring new principals to North Fulton schools.

Retiring educators who served for more than 30 years–including Elizabeth Fogartie at Webb Bridge Middle School–left vacancies that had the Fulton School System shuffle principals around and use its leadership development program to fill gaps. A few principals were recruited or applied from other school systems, with one even coming from Tennessee to lead an Alpharetta school. Students and parents have had opportunities to meet many of these principals already, but most won't see them until the start of the school year. Not sure which school your child should …
