Player of the Week: Colin McElroy

Milton quarterback led Eagles to two key touchdown drives in 14-13 win over Roswell.

Alpharetta-Milton Patch Football Honor Roll Player of the Week Colin McElroy/Milton Plenty of other quarterbacks had better statistics last week than Colin McElroy (see the stats of Alpharetta's Joshua Dobbs below), but few had the impact that the Milton signal-caller had last week. After his team was trailing rival Roswell 13-0 in the second half, McElroy led the Eagles on two touchdown drives — including the game-winner with less than a minute left — in a 14-13 victory. First, McElroy ran 45 yards for a TD midway through the third quarter. Then he completed an 8-yard scoring pass to Ryan Jenkins with 18 seconds remaning for the win. McElroy completed 9 of 15 passes for 94 yards. Other top performances: ALPHARETTA Joshua Dobbs, …

Milton Girls Make History at Georgia Cross Country Championships

The boys team turns in a strong eighth place finish after a big pileup early in the race tripped up or slowed many runners.

A second consecutive region title was just the springboard for the Milton Lady Eagles as they became the first Fulton County girls school/program to grace the podium at the state meet held in Carrolton on Saturday in the AAAAA classification with their well-earned 4th place finish (153 pts). Ranked in the top-10 all season long, the Milton High team was able to reach their season goal with strong front running and having all their scorers finish in the top-50. Making more school history, junior Annie Kelly finished 6th place (19:17) to become the first Lady Eagle ever to finish in the top-10 at the state meet.  Annie finishes her season with a region title and no finishes outside of the top-10 in all her races. Next for Milton was junior …

Milton Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With 30-14 Win Over North Forsyth

The Eagles overcame a missed extra point kick and two-point conversion try to hold off the Raiders.

The North Forsyth High Raiders were only down by a touchdown in the second quarter against the Milton Eagles when a snap went high through their punter's fingers, leading him to grab the ball and run through the end zone. The safety that resulted, and the Eagles touchdown scored on the following drive killed any momentum the young visitors had, North Forsyth head coach Blair Armstrong said after Milton's 30-14 win Friday night. That was the first time the Eagles set up for a return, and if his punter had recognized it, he might still have had a chance to get off a punt. The light drizzle that fell through most of the game kept the field wet, making it tougher for the players to run or make cuts. Treyvon Paulk's 10-yard run with 10:29 left …

Fans, Players May Be All Wet at Tonight's Football Games

With just two weeks left in the regular high school season, don't let a little drizzle make you miss tonight's games.

Rain may dampen spirits at tonight's high school football games, but it's just going to be a little drizzle if at all. Wear a raincoat, bring along a good hat and stand and cheer so you stay warm and dry. Buy some hot chocolate to keep your innards warm, too. At game time, the chance of rain will be about 70 percent, with that dropping to 57 percent at the end of the game–even if I'm covering my fifth or sixth overtime game of the season. It's been cool all day, and will only get cooler as the games progress. Those of us at games will deal with temperatures in the low 50s at the start, dropping to the mid-40s by game's end. Since most of the football stadiums seem to be near creeks, they are at low spots. Coupled with the open field …
