Milton Cross Country Records Best Combined State Meet Finishes

Seniors Annie Kelly and Nathan Riech lead Eagles with runner-up finishes.

The Milton High School Cross Country teams concluded their 2012 campaign at the GHSA State Cross Country Championships in Carrollton, GA with the best combined (boy’s & girls) team finish in school history. Varsity Girls Fourth Place Finish Equals Best The Lady Eagles came into the state meet ranked 3rd and finished an agonizing 4th place, out of 32 schools (147 pts) as they concluded their very successful season. In one of the upsets of the meet, Brookwood (1st-65 pts) took advantage of Walton’s loss of one runner in the race to take the state championship. Milton Cross Country Teams Finish Strong at Covered Bridge Invitational

The Eagles took on 24 other schools at Garrard Landing Park in Roswell.

  The Eagles of Milton travelled to the friendly confines of Garrard Landing Park in Roswell on Saturday, Sept. 8th to compete in the 3rd Covered Bridge Invitational this past weekend along with 24 other schools including a few top-state championship programs and came away with two runner up finishes and two victories along with many impressive performances. Varsity Girls Take Second Place The Lady Eagles came into the meet as the #4 ranked All-Class team in Georgia (#2 ranked in AAAAAA) and were narrowly defeated by the Lady Lions of Peachtree Ridge (#5 ranked in Georgia and #3 in AAAAAA) 68-73. Host Roswell was third (106 pts) followed by Lakeside-Evans in fourth (144 pts). A total of 21 teams competed. Milton was headed by the overall …

Milton Runners Earn Awards from Captains, Coaches

The Eagles Cross Country team picks runners for their teamwork and importance in the Covered Bridge Invitational.

  Editor's Note: Barb Howell, Milton High Cross Country Booster Club secretary, shared the award winners from the Covered Bridge Invitational with runners and parents, and Principal Clifford Jones shared it with Patch. Four Milton High School Eagles Cross Country runners won the coveted Captain's and Key to the Meet awards from the Covered Bridge Invitational held at Garrard Landing Park in Roswell last weekend. "Remember, the XC captains pick out one girl and one boy who showed outstanding teamwork, dedication, and inspiration to the team from the previous meet and award them each Monday at practice with the Captain's award," said Barb Howell, the club secretary for the Eagles Cross Country Booster Club. Milton Cross Country Team Opens Season With Records, Victories

Senior Annie Kelly breaks school record by one minute, while Nate Riech broke an Eagles' record by 30 seconds.

The Eagles of Milton began their 2012 campaign with a trip to Clinton Farms Nature Preserve in Douglasville for the Bob Blastow/Early Bird Invitational and came away with four team victories and a pair of new school records. Varsity Girls Dominant in Victory Milton entered the meet as the pre-season No. 4 ranked All-Class and No. 2 ranked AAAAAA team, proving their mettle by easily dispatching 14 schools on the way to victory. The Lady Eagles (64 points) beat back No. 5 ranked All-Class Landmark Christian (No. 1 ranked A-Private, Fairburn) by 39 points. Cross-town rival Centennial finished a distant third (151 points). Milton Girls Make History at Georgia Cross Country Championships

The boys team turns in a strong eighth place finish after a big pileup early in the race tripped up or slowed many runners.

A second consecutive region title was just the springboard for the Milton Lady Eagles as they became the first Fulton County girls school/program to grace the podium at the state meet held in Carrolton on Saturday in the AAAAA classification with their well-earned 4th place finish (153 pts). Ranked in the top-10 all season long, the Milton High team was able to reach their season goal with strong front running and having all their scorers finish in the top-50. Making more school history, junior Annie Kelly finished 6th place (19:17) to become the first Lady Eagle ever to finish in the top-10 at the state meet.  Annie finishes her season with a region title and no finishes outside of the top-10 in all her races. Milton Eagles Cross Country Teams Victors in Regional Meet

Varsity, junior varsity boys and girls qualify for state championships.

The Milton High School cross country teams swept all scoring races at the GHSA Region 6-AAAAA chapmpionship meet at Garrard Landing Park in Alpharetta, qualifying them for the GHSA State Meet to be held in Carrollton on Saturday, Nov. 5. Varsity Girls Picking up right where they left off, the Lady Eagles easily captured their second consecutive region crown (33 pts) to again defeat county rivals Roswell (2nd-57 pts), Centennial (3rd-58 pts) and the Wolverines of West Forsyth (4th-110 pts) and qualify for the state meet. With three runners in the top-6, the first time in school history, Milton qualified three runners individually for the state meet.
