Creek View Students Help Honor Children's Author

Dan Gutman, author of the Baseball Card Adventure series and several other popular children's book series, received the Milner Award.

Award-winning children's author Dan Gutman received the Milner Award during a presentation held at Creek View Elementary School on Nov. 13. Dan Gutman is the author of the Baseball Card Adventures series, My Weird School series, the Million Dollar series and the Genius Files series. The purpose of the Milner Award is to develop in children a lifelong love of reading. Every year since 1983, Atlanta-area school children vote for their favorite author and the winning author comes to Atlanta to be honored at programs attended by the children who voted.  During the program, Gutman discussed life as an author and how plots and characters are developed, giving children a glimpse of a writer's process.  The program concluded with a book signing by…

Windward Rotary Club Honors Top Students, Teachers

The service organization honors the quarter's best from Creek View Elementary, Webb Bridge Middle and Alpharetta High schools.

Three students and three teachers from three different Alpharetta schools were honored as being among the best by the Windward Rotary Club recently. The Windward Rotary Club awards Student and Teacher of the Quarter awards for Creek View Elementary, Webb Bridge Middle and Alpharetta High schools. Each school has its own nomination and selection process, with teachers nominating students and usually the teachers being nominated by their peers. Students are selected in part for their work in community service, an important trait for the service organization. Alpharetta High's top student this quarter, for example, has compiled 500 hours of community service just in his participating and leadership of the Civil Air Patrol chapter. That's on …

Windward Rotary Honors Students, Teachers of the Quarter

The three Alpharetta schools pick their top teachers and students to be honored.

The Windward Rotary Club honors students and teachers from Creek View Elementary, Webb Bridge Middle and Alpharetta High schools chosen by their schools as the best each quarter. Creek View Elementary Joseph Donale Heitmeier, student Kerry Happe, teacher Happe's colleagues have this to say about her: “Kerry is a wonderful colleague and friend. She is someone you can go to, whether it is school related or personal, and she will always have a sympathetic ear and be ready to give thoughtful advice. The qualities that made her a great friend are also what make her a phenomenal teacher. She listens to her students and gives them what they need both academically and emotionally. She differentiates in her classroom through grouping and …

Creek View Elementary Student Wins Gold at First Wresting Tournament

The member of the Alpharetta Jr. Raider Wrestling team beat more experienced opponents at preseason open held at Lambert High.

Creek View Elementary School 5th grader Daniel Gladwell Jr., a member of the Alpharetta Junior Raider Wrestling Club, earned a gold medal in the first wrestling tournament he ever entered. On Saturday, Nov. 12, Gladwell entered the Takedown Sportswear Preseason Open held at Lambert High School in Suwanee. He competed in the 10 and Under age group's 112 Pound weight class. In his first match, he decisively defeated a more experienced West Forsyth wrestler by the score of 10-3, said his coach, Mark Spivak. In his second match, against an experienced wrestler from the Lambert Youth Wrestling Club, in the finals of his weight class, Daniel won by a first period pin.
