Widespread Panic, The Avett Brothers Schedule Dates in Alpharetta

Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre's first 2013 "show" will be the Big Apple Circus, which will pitch its big top in the parking lot off Founders Parkway next month.

The circus is coming to town, and so are Widespread Panic and the Avett Brothers. Performances are scheduled at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. The Big Apple Circus, Widespread Panic and The Avett Brothers – with Old Crow Medicine Show – are scheduled in 2013. Big Apple Circus The Big Apple Circus won't be under the roof of the amphitheater, but that's good, because the circus is bringing its Big Top Tent to Parking Lot A for a true circus experience. I guess I'm just tired of the whole process of purchasing tickets for just about anything, and all the additional fees involved for just about anything, I'm surprised you're even allowed to peruse the websites for free at this point... I bought tickets for Ringling Brothers earlier today and Ticketmaster's website just plain sucks...when using a discount offer code, its supposed to hide tickets …   more ›

Rush Rocks Alpharetta

New Album, New Tour, Same Great Band

Veteran rockers Rush brought their Clockwork Angels Tour to a sold out audience at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park Thursday night, Nov. 1. These guys just don't give up.  This is the third time I have photographed RUSH and the show just keeps getting better and better. The band was formed in 1968 and has produced 20 albums.  Rush will almost certainly come back to Encore Park. Don't miss it next time.

Rush Returns to Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre Thursday

The Canadian band's concert in Alpharetta is nearly sold out, so put on your thermals and grab your credit card to buy tickets.

Rush has been rocking since the mid-1970s, and the trio brings their "Clockwork Angels" tour to Alpharetta at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. But tickets are nearly sold out, so visit the amphitheater's website to get yours before it's too late. "Clockwork Angels" is the band's first new collection of original material in over five years and their first studio release via Anthem/Roadrunner records. Lyrically, "Clockwork Angels" chronicles a young man’s quest across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy as he attempts to follow his dreams. The story features lost cities, pirates, anarchists, an exotic carnival, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. The …

Clark this looks like a GREAT show. My favorite photo is 7 of 31. What was your favorite live song that BOH played? Also, if you haven't seen it yet, you should check out Band of Horses' video for "Knock Knock." Sugarland Comes Home to Georgia for an Alpharetta Concert

Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre played host to the award-winning duo.

Sugarland rolled its buses into Alpharetta on Thursday to put on a kind of "homecoming" concert, as many of the members either hail from Georgia or live here now. For those of you who don't know, a concert by Sugarland is filled with fan participation. Sure, many performers hold the microphone out to the crowd to belt out an occasional chorus. But for Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, there has to be more. Fans bring posters, but these aren't just you average, every day posters filled with text and maybe a hand drawn copy of a band logo. Nope, these are bedazzled, filled with photos, bordered with fringe – not drawn, but an actual fringe. And on Thursday night, there was even a train with separate cars, plus a poster with a sheep that …

While the Sugarland concert was stellar, the 2nd opening act was horrendous. It was ear-piercingly loud heavy rock, not at all compatible with the rest of the program. Everyone around me was complaining about how unsuitable they were! If the boot-wearing audience was indicative of audience expectations, then opening acts should consist of country wannabees, like Canaan Smith.   more ›

Incubus & Linkin Park Conquer Alpharetta

Bands Mutemath, Incubus & Linkin Park Rock Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park.

Last night's showers had no effect in dampening the spirits of the near capacity crowd that came to experience Linkin Park and Incubus at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park. The venue was about half full when New Orleans' own Mutemath opened the evening. By the time Incubus started, the rain had stopped, the crowd filled in and the rock n roll was kickin'. Incubus played a solid hour and half set. This was Incubus' second time at Verizon Wireless Encore Park. Linkin Park hit the stage around 9:20 p.m. to a dazzling display of lights, sound and angry lyrics. If you want high energy in your concert experience, you need to check out Linkin Park. Front men Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington never stop moving or engaging the crowd. …

Il Divo Dumps Live Orchestra's Music for a Recording

An ArtsAtl.com writer reveals that the audience never heard the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during their Aug. 12 appearance in Alpharetta.

It was billed as "Il Divo with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra," and it was true that the orchestra was there on stage with the quartet last Sunday, Aug. 12. But what wasn't clear was that the ASO's music wasn't being heard by the audience. An ArtsAtl.com writer reports that the ASO musicians were "window dressing" for the classical crossover act. Il Divo instead used a recording of another orchestra for the performance. But is this what the audience should expect at what is supposed to be the summer home of the orchestra? Each season for the past five years the ASO has scheduled four concerts at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. The concert with Il Divo was supposed to be the fourth concert, yet the crowd never heard their local …
