Check Out Alpharetta's Air Quality

Clean Air Campaign tool will let you know the area's air quality daily; Alpharetta Patch's traffic map will help you reduce commute time.

This week the Clean Air Campaign and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal kick off Air Quality Awarness Week. With the help of the campaign's nifty tool above, Alpharetta and Milton residents can check the area's air quality daily by bookmarking this page. “Air Quality Awareness Week is a great reminder that there are simple steps every one of us can take to make an immediate, positive impact on the air we breathe,” said Tedra Cheatham, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign, in a press release. “The great part is that many of the actions that are good for our air, such as using commute alternatives and reducing idling, are also good for our wallets.” The Clean Air Campaign advises that one way residents can make a difference is by reducing …

Motorists Waste Money, Fuel on GA 400 Commute

The Clean Air Campaign and Gov. Nathan Deal are observing Air Quality Awareness Week to reduce smog, commuter stress.

Local commuters waste hunders of thousands of gallons of fuel each year because of traffic congestion on the GA 400 corridor, according to Tedra Cheatham, executive director of the Clean Air Campaign. The organization is observing Air Quality Awareness Week along with Gov. Nathan Deal to educate Georgians about the health effects of smog in Georgia. "Air quality has gotten better. However, we still have 22 counties, the majority in Metro Atlanta, that still do not meet the federal standards for air quality," she said. She said "that stretch of GA 400 between Old Milton Parkway and Holcomb Bridge Road is the worst traffic of any corridor in Metro Atlanta in the morning commute." It's also the 40th worst delay per mile of any stretch of road…

Alpharetta Closing Section of Milton Avenue at 5 p.m. Today

The downtown street will be closed throughout the weekend for the Alpharetta Arts Streetfest, forcing detours around the section from Main Street to Roswell Street/Canton Street.

The Friday afternoon commute through downtown Alpharetta gets a little trickier at 5 p.m. today because that's when the city will close Milton Avenue from Main Street (GA 9) west to its intersection with Roswell Street/Canton Street. This section of Milton Avenue will remain closed through midnight Sunday, April 14. Alpharetta Arts Streetfest will take place Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. However, it takes hours to set up and taken down the exhibits and tents that house them, so time is needed before the event starts and after it ends. Artists will begin arriving to set up this evening, and city crews will help prepare the section of Milton Avenue for the festival. Old Roswell Street will be partially closed, but access will …

Alpharetta Residents Say Keep Rucker a Two-Lane Road

The city asks local residents for their vision of the street.

A handful of Rucker Road area residents told Alpharetta city staff they want the road to remain a two-lane road during a public, interactive meeting on Feb. 11. This was the first of three interactive meetings in which the city asked residents to give their vision of road improvements. No concept plans were created for them to view. City engineers will design a concept plan based on what the public wants, which will be presented sometime in March to see if they got it right. The next public meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Crabapple Government Center. A third meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at Alpharetta City Hall. Rucker Road has become a major connecting road with much through traffic from Cherokee …

Flooding, Accidents Block Lanes on GA 400

The commute home is getting longer than usual with roadways being blocked as severe thunderstorms continue to affect motorists.

The drive home today is becoming more dangerous as flooding makes wet roads even more dangerous. Lanes on GA 400 have been closed at times as flooding and accidents clog traffic. GA 400 northbound, just south of Northridge Road, has the left and middle thre lanes of four blocked. Georgia Department of Transportation officials expect it to be cleared by 4:30 p.m. An accident just north of the Northridge interchange had one lane blocked, but it has cleared.

Crews Restore Water to Mansell Area Businesses, Residences

A water main break on Tuesday afternoon caused traffic snarls and businesses to close early because they lacked water, but repairs have been made to the pipe.

UPDATE OCT. 19: Alpharetta spokesperson James Drinkard said in a release today that periodic lane closures will continue on a portion of Mansell Road just east of North Point Parkway. Water service has been restored to businesses and residents located along Mansell Road between GA 400 and Haynes Bridge Road, and along the entire Old Alabama Road Connector. If live or work in that area and see discolored waer or have air in your pipes when first using faucets and fixtues, allowing the water to run for a brief time will fix the problems. Fulton County Water Department crews worked through the night to fix the broken 36-inch water main that caused the problems and will still cause some lane closures for westbound traffic. Rain will hamper …

I am currently at the Starbucks located on North Point Parkway and Mansell (attached to Barnes & Noble) and the only beverages they can offer are iced coffees and teas. No hot beverages. I'm also being told that Chili's next store is closed. I've also passed workers that are currently at the scene working to fix the water main break.   more ›
