Search Continues for Man Missing on Lake Lanier - Cumming Patch The search for a 47-year-old boater and fisherman missing on Lake Lanier since Monday night resumed at dawn today, according to Lt. Rick Doyle of the FCSO. "At this point we have six boats in the water, two from DNR [Department of Natural Resources], one from SO [Sheriff's Office], one from the coast guard auxiliary and two from FCFD [Fire Department]," Doyle said. Milton High School senior Josh Harris signed a letter of intent to play football for Wake Forest University this week. The 6 foot, 4 inch, 295-pound offensive linemen was joined on signing day by his parents, his two sisters and his brother – and most of the other 10 Eagles who made commitments to college football programs. Josh played offensive tackle and guard for the Eagles. His dad, Tom Harris, said his son turned down an offer late last week to play for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Eleven Milton High School football players signed to play college football this week, including Carl Lawson, the No. 2 recruit in the nation, according to ESPNU. Lawson and teammate Payton Barber signed to Auburn, according to Milton Eagles Football. Josh Harris and Cory Helms were Wake Forest signees. Eason Fromayan completed requirements for high school graduation early, and signed with TCU early. His time at TCU started Jan. 7, and he'll be working out with the team as early as this month. Will the Bulldogs start 2013 with a win?
The Georgia Bulldogs were scheduled to hit Orlando on today, Dec. 26, to begin prepping in earnest for their New Year's Day Capital One Bowl matchup against the Big Ten's Nebraska. Coming off a heartbreaking SEC championship loss in which a few yards made the difference between playing for the national title and being passed over for a BCS berth, the Dawgs are looking to close out the 2012 season on a triumphant note. Some analysts think that's likely. The SEC, Alabama and the University of Georgia are warning fans to beware of counterfeit tickets to Saturday's sold-out SEC title game.
If somebody's trying to sell you a ticket to Saturday's SEC Championship game between Georgia and Alabama, take a close look. It had better have two strips of SEC holographic foil at the top, and more foil on the championship logo in the middle. You ought to be able to see the SEC logo and name in the foil as you move the ticket around in your hand. If you can't, walk away. WRBL News reports that the SEC and the title-seeking teams are worried fans eager to get into the sold-out game might be scammed by counterfeiters. “It’s important to pay close attention to the details of the ticket, especially the holographic foil,” David Knight, director of championship ticket operations, said in a news release posted on the station's website. For the Bulldogs, the hype about a possible national championship has begun.
Georgia's Athletic Director Greg McGarity might have been prescient when he asserted earlier this season that Georgia Tech, and not Florida, is really the Bulldogs' biggest rival. Who would have predicted a month ago that so much would ride on this weekend's in-state matchup? Georgia survived the easier of its back-to-back triple-option challenges by defeating Georgia Southern last week. Now the Bulldogs, suddenly catapulted to No. 3 in the BCS standings, must withstand a visit from Georgia Tech before turning their attention to the SEC Championship game, likely against No. 2 Alabama. The Dawgs will play for the SEC title in Atlanta no matter what. But to maintain any national title hope, they can't overlook their next two opponents.
Once again, the Georgia Bulldogs have overcome an early loss to South Carolina to earn their way to the SEC title game. But before heading down the road to Atlanta, the Dawgs host instate rivals Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. “We know we’re playing in Atlanta and that’s settled right now, but we know there’s a lot of work in the meantime, which is the job of getting better on a daily basis,” head coach Mark Richt said early this week. With eight wins, Georgia Southern is no slouch in the FCS league. Despite being the obvious favorite, the Dawgs expect a challenge both this Saturday and next. A look at this weekend's SEC action.
Now comes another type of test for No. 1 Alabama. After last Saturday's come-from-behind victory over LSU at Baton Rouge, the Crimson Tide will have to deal with a possible letdown when No. 15 Texas A&M comes to Tuscaloosa (Game Time: 3:30 p.m., CBS). The game carries huge implications for the SEC. Alabama (6-0 in SEC) still must win Saturday and later this year vs. Auburn to be assured of the SEC West title. An A&M win Saturday and later vs. Missouri could give the SEC West title to the Aggies (4-2 in SEC). This week, Alabama will have to deal with an A&M spread offense that is averaging 251 yards rushing (first in SEC) and 308 yards per game (second in SEC) passing. A victory Saturday should send the Bulldogs to the SEC championship game.
Auburn's not very good this year. They're still looking for an SEC win, and Georgia might not be the best place to find it. The Bulldogs, while romping through some rough patches, are ranked fifth in the country and need only beat the Tigers to wrap up the SEC East Division and play for the league championship. Of course, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt isn't preparing his team for a cakewalk. "I told the guys `Get your mind right, right now,"' Richt said in an Associated Press story earlier this week. "We know they're capable of knocking us off." The Dawgs will be bringing a depleted receiving corps to Auburn. The Bulldogs could coast to an SEC East title - if they can get past the undefeated Gators.
So, in their last two games, Georgia got trounced by South Carolina and barely squeaked by the unimpressive Kentucky Wildcats. And yet, Bulldogs faithful are still talking about a shot at the SEC championship. Why? Because the Bulldogs have only one loss, and if they beat Florida on Saturday, a relatively gentle schedule gives them an opportunity to cruise to the SEC East title. The schedule is so favorable, an AP reporter suggested that Georgia "might be the most fortunate team in the nation."
