Three Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites in Alpharetta, Milton

Families are already dropping off their trees for the annual Bring One for the Chipper event on Saturday.

Families from across Alpharetta and Milton already have been dropping off their Christmas trees for the 23rd annual Bring One for the Chipper event on Saturday, Jan. 7, when the trees will be turned into mulch. All of the locations are in Milton, but one is designated as the Alpharetta location: Make sure you remove all decorations from your tree before dropping it off. In Alpharetta, it's the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission, Keep Georgia Beautiful and other partners – the Windward Parkway Home Depot, the Alpharetta-Johns Creek Kiwanis Club, Windward Parkway Chick-Fil-A Store, and the Alpharetta Young Men’s Service League – who invite you to bring trees to Home Depot on Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Trees will be chipped into mulch …

Alpharetta Kicks Off Holiday Season in Front of Huge Crowd

The 35th annual Christmas Tree Lighting event started with holiday-themed entertainment from North Point Community Church before Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived and the tree was lit.

It took two stages for all of the events in Alpharetta's Christmas Tree Lighting to be held, with North Point Community Church using the larger, "lower" stage near Canton Street for its music and entertainment. Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle not only brought his children on stage for the traditional reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to the crowd. He also had them join in the reading. Then it was time for the tree to light up the mini park at North Main and Milton Avenue, just behind the stage. Alpharetta Christian Academy, Rhythm and Shoes, and Maddie Monroe also provided entertainment.

Thanks to Melissa Vater at Alpharetta Christian Academy for reminding me that more groups in addition to North Point Community Church were involved in the festivities and entertainment. If you have some good photos from the Tree Lighting, add them to this article!   more ›

Christmas Trees 101

Why buy an artificial tree that you can set up in 30 minutes when you can, instead, give your family the unparalleled joy of the trip to pick out the Christmas tree?

Picking out a Christmas tree isn’t as hard as you might think. In fact, at our house we have this thing down to a science. Upon arrival at our favorite nursery we pick out the tree in record time. Pick it up, twirl it around, say “yes” or “no” and move on ‘til you find the perfect one. Easy.  When we get home the first thing, of course is to get the tree inside. My husband Paul, who is very thorough, has attached the tree so firmly to the top of our car that it takes 30 minutes and a Houdini handbook to untie it.  Once that’s accomplished I immediately put the Christmas tree on drugs. Placing the trunk in a bath of warm water infused with high doses of sugar and aspirin, I hope that the tree will take kindly to its new environment; i.e. …

Milton Lights Up its Christmas Tree on Saturday at Deerfield Place

This is the third year for the event, which is growing just like the tree planted for the occasion.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas–OK, the stores have a holiday motif and most are playing Christmas music in the background. Now it's the city of Milton's turn to add some holiday cheer with the third annual Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 3. The ceremony will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the corner of Ga. 9 and Webb Road, in the Deerfield Place shopping center, which is home to Super Target, Kohl’s, Petco and more. The tree lighting ceremony will last 30 minutes, from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and include a performance by the Milton High School Chorale and Milton’s Mayor and City Council counting down to the big moment. After the tree is lit, good St. Nick will arrive by fire truck to the tune of “Here Comes Santa Claus.” Take a look …

Alpharetta Lights its Christmas Tree during Sunday Celebration.

This weekend will be filled with celebrations.

Alpharetta will light its Christmas Tree in downtown at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. The celebration will take place in the Milton Square City Park at Milton Avenue and Main Street. The celebration began in 1977 with about 100 people gathered around a 6-foot live blue spruce tree. Alpharetta’s annual holiday event has grown to approximately 3,000 people celebrating the lighting of the 45-foot tree. “The Christmas Tree Lighting has brought the Alpharetta community together for years,” said Mayor Arthur Letchas. “It is a perfect time to enjoy the simple traditions of holiday season.” Mayor Letchas and his wife, Sally, will read the children’s classic book, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, on the main stage for the last time, as Letchas leaves …
