GDOT Closing Kimball Bridge Road at 9 Friday Night

Bridge construction and paving will have the old and new bridges closed tonight through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22.

Don't forget that the Georgia Department of Transportation will close the bridge over Big Creek on Kimball Bridge Road starting at 9 p.m. tonight, Friday. the 19th. When the bridge reopens by 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, motorist will be driving across the new bridge.

He said he doesn't have an exact date, but it should be in the middle or end of October, weather permitting. "Hopefully the weather holds up for us, but it is ahead of schedule," Sewczwicz said. A roundabout intersection project was completed recently that is near the bridge as scheduled before school started. "Once we feel comfortable that we can have vehicles on the bridge while the contractors are still working on the corridor, we will open up the bridge," he said. Sewczwicz has received calls asking why the bridge wasn't completed before school started. That wasn't…

"It will be ready and operational by Aug. 15," said Pete Sewcwicz. Since June 6, a portion of Douglas Road between Jones Bridge Road and McGinnis Ferry Road has been closed to allow for improvements to be made on the intersection of Douglas Road and Southlake Drive and for the replacement of the nearby bridge over Caney Creek. This week pavement work was to begin. Georgia Power was installing light poles. Asphalt will be completed in the next two weeks and striping will follow. Sewcwicz said the contractor and his department are focusing on the roundabout now. Materials and a crane …

Yes, this story wasn't as clear as the latest story I wrote about the roundabout and bridge. Eight days after this was posted–on July 29–I updated with a separate, new story that obviously wasn't seen by as many residents that did make these points clear. http://patch.com/A-kCML.   more ›
