Burglar Takes $10,000 From Alpharetta Home

Family's laundry business suffers loss of cash, checks paid by customers.

An Alpharetta family lost $10,000 to a burglar who broke into their Breckenridge Lane home. Alpharetta Police Officer R. Shults reported that on Jan. 19 at 10:21 p.m. he was dispatched to the home, where the mother said between 10 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. someone broke into her home. A hole the size of a fist could be seen near the back door's lock. The daughter's room was in disarray, with drawers pulled from the dresser and items thrown to the floor. The woman said her daughter was out of state and she didn't know if anything was taken from the room. A brief case was found in the home's upstairs office with its lock broken off. The woman reported the briefcase had $7,000 in cash and $3,000 in checks from the family's Marietta laundry business.
