Boy Scout's Golden Eagle Breakfast Raises $30,000+

The fundraiser had a full house despite fears of black ice on Friday morning.

Despite the threat of winter weather Friday morning, the 2013 Golden Eagle Breakfast had a full house at the Metropolitan Club to support Scouting in the Milton District, raising more than $30,000. More than 60 business, civic and Scouting leaders and elected officials attended this year’s Boy Scout fund-raising event on Jan. 18 to show their support for Boy Scouts in the community. The Milton District includes Alpharetta, Milton, most of Roswell and the western half of Johns Creek. More than 3,000 youth participate in Scouting in the Milton District.The fundraiser provides funding to support the District’s summer programs, adult training, equipment and your sponsorships. Three Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites in Alpharetta, Milton

Families are already dropping off their trees for the annual Bring One for the Chipper event on Saturday.

Families from across Alpharetta and Milton already have been dropping off their Christmas trees for the 23rd annual Bring One for the Chipper event on Saturday, Jan. 7, when the trees will be turned into mulch. All of the locations are in Milton, but one is designated as the Alpharetta location: Make sure you remove all decorations from your tree before dropping it off. Neighbor Holds Alleged Burglar at Gunpoint - Cartersville Patch Bartow County sheriff's officials are crediting an alert neighbor for the arrest of a man allegedly caught breaking into a Cartersville home. Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a press release deputies were dispatched about 6:40 last night to a burglary in progress at the Jones Mill Road residence. They found Corey Biggers, 24, of Armuchee, lying on the ground, held at gunpoint by a neighbor who had called 911. Authorities say the Good Samaritan and neighbor reported having seen Biggers drive slowly by the home after the homeowners left and back into the driveway, leaving his truck running. Boy Scouts Brave Cold to Recycle Paint

Milton Grows Green and BSA Troop 3000 collect tons of paint.

Boy Scouts and volunteers from the Milton Grows Green Committee collected thousands of paint cans in a recycling event on Saturday, Feb. 11,. BSA Troop 3000 from Birmingham United Methodist Church held a paint recycling event at their campground on the church grounds. Despite the cold weather, the boys, joined by Milton Grows Green volunteers, collected more than 3,500 cans of paint from more than 240 residents. That means more than 8 tons of paint were saved from landfills. Milton Grows Green (MGG) is a citizens' committee advocating responsibly managed growth by conserving and protecting resources, while preserving Milton's heritage and natural landscape for future generations.

Boy Scouts Will Help Milton Residents Recycle Old Paint Today

BSA Troop 3000 and Milton Grows Green host a paint recycling event at the Scout's compound on Birmingham Highway.

Milton's first ever paint recycling event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, rain, snow or shine from 1-5 p.m., with Boy Scouts of America Troop 3000 and Milton Grows Green as sponsors. Local residents–but no commercial customers–can bring their empty, nearly empty or even full cans of paint to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 3000 Scout Compound, 15770 Birmingham Highway Milton GA 30004 (east of Birmingham United Methodist Church by Birmingham crossroads and teepee). The costs are $15 for the first 10 cans of latex or oil based paint (in their original containers) and $2 for each additional can above 10. The fees will be shared between Troop 3000 and the paint recycling company, Williams Paint Recycling. Cash and checks will be accepted. …

Area Business Leaders Pledge $33,000 to Boy Scouts

Eagle Scout, Coca-Cola executive tell tales of Scouting and the leadership traits it fosters.

The almost 70 business leaders from Alpharetta, Milton, Johns Creek and a bit of Roswell who attended the Golden Eagle Breakfast pledged $33,000 to support the Milton District of the Atlanta Area Council of Boys Scouts of America this morning, Jan. 20. These business people who attended the breakfast at The Metropolitan Club aren't the active former Scouts who regularly volunteer and take part in Scouting activities, though several said they planned to start or resume that kind of work. Eagle Scout Eric Beppler, out of Johns Creek Presbyterian Church, spoke to the business people about what he's learned through Scouting, and how it has prepared him for life. Milton Teenager Gives Crabapple Community Center a New Look

In an effort to obtain his Eagle badge, Nate Vernon went to work on painting the old community center with the help of fellow troop members.

While most teenagers were enjoying their Saturday at the pool or mall, Nate Vernon,17, was at the Crabapple Community Center with paintbrush in hand ready to give the old building a new look. As a Boy Scout Vernon is working to obtain his Eagle badge, the highest rank attainable in the program. He must complete a large community service project to do so. He was contacted by the Crabapple Community Association to take on the community center and readily agreed. “ I’m always an advocate for freshening up the way that people see our city,” said Nate.
