President Barack Obama will give the commencement address on Sunday at Morehouse College, and Patch will be covering the event live. Obama is expected to make his remarks at approximately 11:30 am. Patch's live coverage will begin at 10 am. Readers can follow our live blog, ask questions and post their comments and observations. We'll also be running various polls throughout the morning. After the event, Patch will feature a wrapup of the president's speech and reactions to it. Divers Continue Search for Missing Man on Lake - Cumming Patch Divers from Forsyth County Fire and Hall County Sheriff's Office resumed their search Thursday morning for the 47-year-old boater and fisherman missing on Lake Lanier since Monday night, according to Melissa Cummings, DNR spokesperson. Cummings said the plan for today included those divers and the continued use of side scans. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office also planned to have their mobile command center back at the site. Gov. Nathan Deal today told the Obama administration that Georgia will not set up its own health care exchange, citing the administration's "one-size fits all" approach and the high cost that the law places on states. “I remain committed to common sense health care solutions that empower consumers to take responsibility for their own health, motivate the private sector and drive efficiencies for consumers, employers and governments alike,” Deal said in a press release. “I continue to hope that we might finally engage in a serious conversation about restoring meaningful flexibility to states around health care programs.” Deal said the federal government needs to loosen regulations that restrict states’ options. President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election, according to projections.
President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, according to network projections. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. Voters in Georgia on Tuesday cast their ballot for Mitt Romney, giving him the state's 16 Electoral votes, according to early results.
In a move that fell in line with expectations, Mitt Romney was projected to win Georgia’s 16 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Barack Obama. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Republican candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in Georgia and spent more time visiting the Peach State to raise money. The state has been a Republican stronghold in recent presidential elections. The economy was a key issue for many voters in Georgia state, which has had a higher than average unemployment rate. UPATE 5:50 pm If you are in line to vote at 7 pm, you will get to vote even though the polls close then. Tens of thousands of Fulton County voters have already cast ballots today. Turnout is especially high for today’s General Election, as it is in most Presidential election years. It's too early to know how this year compares to 2008. In the evening after traditional work hours, peak turnout is anticipated, and tens of thousands of additional voters could exercise their right to vote.
