A Roswell woman's business had suffered multiple check forgery incidents in her city, so she was prepared when another attempt was made in Milton. The businesswoman had placed a fraud alert on her account, so when someone tried to cash a forged check at a Milton bank branch on Sept. 11, she was alerted and police were called. When Milton police arrived at the Chase Bank branch on Windward Parkway, they encountered a suspect who said he was trying to cash a check. He became upset when asked where he got the check. The teller approached by the suspect said the check presented was counterfeit. While it appeared to be printed on bank paper, it was not the correct format for Chase Bank checks. The combined Synovus divisions will retain the Alpharetta bank's name.
Synovus Bank plans to consolidate two of its bank divisions – Alpharetta-based Bank of North Georgia and the Bank of Coweta in Newnan. Synovus, a Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank, today announced in a news releaste that it expects the consolidation to be completed early next year. Alpharettans won't notice much change, as the combined division will use the Bank of North Georgia trade name. The newly expanded Bank of North Georgia division will have a total of 41 branches in 16 counties. Don Howard will continue in his role as chairman of Bank of North Georgia and Synovus Regional CEO. Habitat for Humanity benefits from bank's donations,
Habitat for Humanity–North Central Georgia was presented with a $7,500 check by Bank of North Georgia to help build a Habitat home for the Blackwell family. Veronnica Blackwell is a mother of three children, ages 11, 8 and 7. She has endured many challenges over the years, including helping her son overcome a serious health issue. The First Baptist Woodstock teacher said she is looking forward to becoming a homeowner and being able to provide a stable home for her children. Construction on the Blackwell home will begin Sept. 17. The Bank of North Georgia holds its annual PB&J Food Drive during the month of April.
Bank of North Georgia wants a different kind of deposit this April. Instead of cash, payroll checks, 401(k) rollovers or other monetary deposits, the bank employees will be looking for PB&J. It's the fourth annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive. The 42 branches of Bank of North Georgia will accept donations from April 2- 30 during normal banking hours. Those donations will be given to 30 food pantries near the branches. Those include North Fulton Community Charities just south of Alpharetta in Roswell, and The Place of Forsyth County, according to a news release from Lauren Muzzy, the bank's communications manager.
