Threat of Rain Cancels Alpharetta Farmers Market

The Alpharetta Business Association said the event would return to downtown Alpharetta next week.

Heavy rain in the forecast has caused the cancellation of Saturday's Downtown Alpharetta Farmers Market. Alpharetta Business Association board member Larry Attig first made the announcement. "Due to the unfavorable weather predicted for Alpharetta tomorrow we have decided to cancel the Alpharetta Farmers Market for this Saturday," he said. The National Weather Service said the chance of rain on Saturday is 100 percent. An east wind of 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, would add to the problems for vendors and customers. The area will also be under a flood watch from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. The Saturday morning event is being held on Old Canton Street this season. Attig said the ABA was "sorry for the inconvenience, but we think …

Alpharetta Farmers Market Opens Season Saturday in New Location

City Center construction has forced the weekly event to move to Old Canton Street in downtown Alpharetta, right beside this weekend's Alpharetta Arts Streetfest.

Saturday marks the start of the season for the Alpharetta Farmers Market, which is in a new location in downtown Alpharetta. The Farmers Market had to leave its site next door to City Hall because of  the beginning of work for the City Center project. This year the vendors will be on Old Canton Street in downtown, next to the mini park on Milton Avenue. The Farmers Market will be open for extended hours this week in conjunction with the Alpharetta Arts Streetfest being held on Main Street this weekend. The Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The Alpharetta Business Association's Carol Anderson-Wood, who serves as the Farmers Market manager, reports that her vendors are excited about the new location and are ready for …

Alpharetta Business Association Hosts Second State of the City Breakfast

Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle will make his second address since taking office in January 2012.

Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle had barely taken office when he gave his first State of the City address, but in it he laid out an ambitious future for the city. On Tuesday, Feb. 19, he will give his second address at The Metropolitan Club. Belle Isle announced plans for an Alpharetta Technology Commission, proposed a conference and convention center for the North Fulton city and backed redevelopment of downtown Alpharetta. Two of those have moved forward, while the third – a conference and convention center – has been the subject of study by the city. The 2012 State of the City address was held in a large tent in the parking lot next to Alpharetta City Hall. For 2013, however, the event moves indoors to The Metropolitan Club on Marconi …

Alpharetta Farmers Market Must Move for the Season

Contractors will need the space provided by the parking lot next to City Hall where the farmers market has been held to stage equipment for Downtown City Center construction.

The groundbreaking date for Alpharetta's City Center is approaching, and work to prepare will continue to affect downtown plans and schedules. The latest "victim" of City Center will be the Alpharetta Downtown Farmers Market, but it will just be moved. For the past few years the farmers market has been held in the parking lot beside City Hall on South Main Street, a very visible location that members of the Alpharetta Business Association have said serves it well. "I'm just trying to see how long we can stay in the parking lot," said Dick Debban of the Alpharetta Business Association, which sponsors the farmers market. "We'd love to stay there one more year if we could." But this site will not be available starting even before the …

Alpharetta Business Assocation Celebrates 100th Member

The ABA, sponsors of the Alpharetta Farmers Market and the Brew Moon Fest, held its monthly meeting at Smokejack's in downtown.

The Alpharetta Business Association's monthly meeting was time for a celebration, as the organization honored its 100th member, Amoora Dance & Fitness Center. The downtown Alpharetta business joined the group less than a year after opening its doors. Suhad Nassar, the owner of Amoora Dance & Fitness Center, took home the gifts that came with bringing the ABA to the century mark in members. "Every time I show up, you guys are growing," said Alpharetta City Councilman Chris Owens. Amoora is a dance studio and fitness center for women only. It offers a variety of classes, that include kickboxing, boot camp, belly dancing, hip hop, Zumba and yoga. Private lessons and six-week sessions for children also are offered for belly dancing and …

The Alpharetta Business Association sponsored event extends its hours to take advantage of the Arts Streetfest crowd.

Vendors were happy with the weather and the turnout at the opening session of the Alpharetta Farmers Market in downtown Alpharetta. The Farmers Market started a little later in the morning, but extended into the afternoon, calling a halt to sales at 2:30 p.m. Many of the customers–and more than a few of the Farmers Market vendors–could be seen checking out the Alpharetta Art Streetfest after the Farmers Market closed. Alpharetta Mayor Plans Technology Commission

Belle Isle also tells business and community leaders at the first State of the City address by an Alpharetta mayor that the city needs a convention center.

Mayor David Belle Isle hasn't been in office two months, but he's already accomplished a first: He apparently is the first mayor in 154 years to give an official State of the City address. The Alpharetta Business Association organized the event, using a large tent from It's My Party Rental on the parking lot next to City Hall for the breakfast event. The mayor said public safety and transportation are two building blocks for a good city. The ISO rating of 2 for Alpharetta's firefighters and a steadily declining crime rate in the city are testament to one building block. Completion of Westside Parkway's last section in June, plus improvements at nearly every major intersection in the city show the other building block is being addressed. …

Alpharetta Business Association Wants to Market Entire City

The group dropped its old name to convince potential members it's about more than just downtown, and will sponsor a Mayor's State of the City Address this month.

The Alpharetta Business Association is looking for more members to continue the work marketing and lobbying for businesses in the city. The group isn't new–until recently it was known as the Downtown Alpharetta Trade Association (DATA)–but that old name was too limiting. Board member Brian Patton said the name change allows them to reach out to more businesses. "We kept on finding that so many people didn't join because they'd be a half block off of downtown," Patton said. The group never limited itself to downtown, but having that name was a "marketing hurdle that we just couldn't overcome," he said. If the 40-50 members didn't do something to reach the entire business community in the city, someone else would beat them to it, Patton said…
