This weekend's heavy rain will move out of Alpharetta, making way for mostly sunny skies by the weekend.
After yet another weekend filled with flood warnings and event cancellations throughout the metro area, Alpharetta is in for some sunny skies early this week and this Memorial Day weekend, though rain will be likely on Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, Big Creek remains above flood stage, affecting some yards in North Fulton and Forsyth counties. The creek was expected to fall below flood stage by early Tuesday. The Big Creek Greenway is closed due to flooding. A chance of scattered strong showers and thunderstorms continues Monday, with partly cloudy skies and a high of 86, according to the National Weather Service's Alpharetta forecast. North Point Mall was evacuated Friday morning after a bomb threat was received shortly before 10 a.m.
A suspect whom Alpharetta police say confessed to a bomb threat hoax at North Point Mall last week was formally charged with terroristic threats, making false alarm and false 911 report, according to George Gordon. Gordon, the spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, previously said that Omari Glenn Riden, 28, was arrested Friday, May 10, hours after police allege he made the call that forced the evacuation of the mall. The mall was evacuated mid-morning Friday after the bomb threat was made shortly before 10 a.m.

A man has been formally arrested and will be charged with calling in a bomb threat that forced officials to shut down and evacuate North Point Mall in Alpharetta. Omari Glenn Riden, 28, was taken into custody and will be formally charged with the threat, said Alpharetta Department of Public Safety Spokesperson George Gordon. He remains held without bond. "During the interview with the detectives, he began to cry and confessed to calling in the hoax bomb threat," Gordon said, adding the charges are yet to be determined. UPDATE at 1:35 p.m.: A man has been taken into custody in relation to the North Point Mall bomb threat that forced authorities to evacuate the mall this morning. Alpharetta Department of Public Safety Spokesperson George Gordon confirmed the man was taken into custody about 15 minutes ago. The "nation's largest single-day food drive" is this Saturday.
Millions of American families need food assistance, and the National Association of Letter Carriers this Saturday will hold what organizers say is the nation's largest single-day food drive. The association collected more than 73 million pounds of food during last year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to Michael Miles with the United States Postal Service. More than 200,000 pounds of that was collected in metro Atlanta, he said.
