The "Walk of Memories" remembers Georgia veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice, including those who have fallen in the war on terror since 9/11.
Alpharetta–and the entire state of Georgia–has its own memorial in town to those who have fallen in service to their country. The American Legion Post 201 "Walk of Memories" takes on a special meaning today as it includes those who have given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, wars started in the nation's war on terror. The "Walk of Memories" memorializes all Georgia veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given their lives during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Each name is engraved into a brick on the Walk of Memories, which winds its way past memorial to individual conflicts, with a tank, a gun turret and a helicopter among the other memorials the American Legion has erected on…

Band, players, fans take moment of silence in memory of that fateful day
The Alpharetta High School Raiders paused pre-game activities before their game with the Duluth Wildcats for a ceremony commemorating the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Fans stood in the stands and players from both teams lined up in opposite end zones as the Alpharetta Raiders Band marched into the field. As a quartet of Raiders cheerleaders led the Alpharetta police color guard across the field, the PA announcer asked the crowd to honor those who gave their lives that day in New York, Washington, D.C., and in Pennsylvania. The band played the Star Spangled Banner to close out the ceremony, but fans weren't done. As the game was about to start, fans started chanting, "USA, USA, USA," waving flags they brought into the …
