Video: Milton State Champs Cheer Soccer Team to Victory

The high school's boys lacrosse team, fresh from winning their own state title, came straight to Milton Stadium.

What do you do when you've won the state title as AAAAA boys lacrosse champions? That was easy for the Milton Eagles. They came home from defeating Lassiter in overtime to cheer the Lady Eagles on to victory in their state title soccer match. The freshly crowned boys lacrosse team arrived at Milton High School's stadium at halftime in the girls soccer match against Northview. Victory was far from certain at that point. After being cheered on by Milton fans celebrating their win over Lassiter, the boys began to chant and cheer for the Lady Eagles, who seemed happy to see Milton's second state champs of the day on hand. Hopewell Middle School Students Awarded

Awards given to students who are active in school, good citizens, show leadership and are patriotic.

Hopewell Middle School students recently earned Silver Mustang and Daughters of the American Revolution awards. The Hopewell Middle School Silver Mustang awards winners of the 2012 graduating 8th grade class are Diya Sharma and Nico Leis. The Silver Mustang award recipients exemplify what is means to be a Mustang of Hopewell Middle School by being involved in clubs and activities, maintaining an excellent academic record, showing school spirit, participating in community service, being well respected by their peers and are good citizens and role models to all. Milton Eagles Win Lacrosse, Soccer Titles

The Lady Eagles soccer team closes out the day of state championship victories.

Three title games. Three state championships. Milton High School teams won titles games in girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse and girls soccer. The girls lacrosse team took the first championship, defeating Roswell at home at Milton High's stadium. The boys were next to win, but that victory wasn't sealed until overtime in the boys lacrosse championship against Lassiter. Finally, the girls soccer team took on North Fulton rival Northview and won, 4-0, to make the school 3-0 in state championships on Saturday.

Title Town? Milton High Tries To Add Lacrosse, Soccer Trophies

Boys and girls lacrosse teams, plus the Lady Eagles soccer team try to match the boys and girls golf teams with state championships.

Milton sports fans will have a tough time deciding where to go on Saturday night. Boys' and girls' varsity lacrosse teams play in state championships at Lassiter and Milton, while while the girls' soccer team will be hosting another state title game in Milton. Milton High beat Walton 20-9 to reach the girls AAAAA lacrosse title game. Despite the Alpharetta Raiders losing on Wednesday night, it's still an all-North Fulton game: the Roswell High School Hornets girls lacrosse team beat the Lady Raiders. The Lady Eagles beat Etowah (22-4) and Mill Creek (21-3). On Wednesday night, they defeated Walton 20-9 on their way to the state title game against the Hornets. Private School: Fulton Science Academy Makes It Official

The school's charter with Fulton County Schools expires after June 30, and with its charter renewal and a state charter application denied, this was the only option to open in the fall.

Fulton Science Academy Middle School announced its opening as a private school for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year, the school announced in an email today. The new FSA private school will now serve students with no residency limitations. "FSA will continue to offer the same superior STEM academic programs that helped it to earn the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Award as well as the Governor’s Platinum Award," according to the release sent by Katherine Dion, spokesperson for the school. She said it will provide a wide variety of free after school clubs and tutoring as well as numerous competitive academic teams. Help me out here. FSA is denied a charter by the county and the state. Fitch bond rating agency has de-rated the $20 million FSA bonds to CC as the FSA management refuses to cooperate. According to Fitch, default appears probable. Millions of dollars are unaccounted for. Construction has stopped on the new school, leaving acres of raw dirt. Alpharetta Student at Chatt Tech Earns Emmy Bid

Two student productions and the instructor-led coverage of the Shuler Hensley Awards are up for Southeastern awards.

Two students, a recent graduate who’s a Patch contributor and the lead instructor of Chattahoochee Technical College’s television production technology program have been nominated for Southeastern Regional Emmy Awards for work they did through class. The television production program is based at Chattahoochee Tech’s Mountain View campus in Northeast Cobb. Program graduate Jenny Lindamood of Kennesaw, whose work for Patch includes extensive video coverage of high school football, teamed with current student Marty Johnson of Alpharetta to create Double Cross My Heart, nominated in the category of student production—non-news. Graduation Ceremonies Set for Fulton Seniors

Milton plans an outdoor ceremony at its football stadium, while Alpharetta will take the stage at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.

Graduation ceremonies begin on Thursday afternoon for the more than 5,000 Fulton County seniors will celebrate Class of 2012 commencement ceremonies at venues throughout the county during May 17-20. The weather forecast seems good so far for the outdoor ceremonies, with no rain in sight. Independence High kicks things off with its 1 p.m., Thursday, May 17, ceremonies at the Milton Center Auditorium. Milton High stays at home to hold its graduation at the Milton Stadium on Friday, May 18 at 8 p.m., and this year it will be streaming live in a webcast for out of town family and friends. Crabapple Crossing Field Day Ends In Space

Parent volunteer Scott Dunbar created the Crabapple Crossing High Altitude Balloon Project to excite children about science.

Crabapple Crossing Elementary School's Field Day 2012 ended up in space, with help from a parent volunteer who created the Crabapple Crossing High Altitude Balloon Project. Scott Dunbar said he started the project almost a year ago. "I had seen something on the Internet where a dad and his son sent a weather balloon up with a video camera in it, and posted the video to YouTube. I have been the “science lab guy” at Crabapple Crossing as a volunteer for some time now, and thought this would be an interesting project to get the kids interested in science," Dunbar said in the story he submitted to Patch. Fulton Science Academy Bonds Downgraded

The failure of Fulton Science Academy Middle School to get a state charter led to the latest drop to a 'C' rating.

Fitch Ratings again has downgraded the rating on the $18.9 million in bonds for Fulton Science Academy to "CC" from "B," according to BusinessWire. Fulton Science Academy Middle School's failure to get either a charter renewal from Fulton County or a state charter led to the downgrade of the Development Authority of Alpharetta educational facilities revenue bonds. Fitch said in the release that lack of management cooperation left it unable to determine if the middle school's proposed conversion to a private school was feasible, and its possible effects on the Fulton Sunshine Academy and Fulton Science Academy High School. All three schools are obligated for the bonds. Fitch won't be issuing analysis or further ratings because Fulton …
