Milton Holds Public Safety Fair This Weekend

The Milton Public Safety Foundation holds its annual fundraiser, with cheap hot dog meals, SWAT team display, fire extinguishing presentations and exhibits of fire and police equipment.

Police and firefighters will fill the parking lot at Fry's this weekend, but don't worry. They are there for some fun. It's the fifth annual Public Safety Fair. The Milton Public Safety Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation that provides support for the city’s police and fire services, will hold its fifth annual fundraiser, coincidentally at the same time as Fry's anniversary sale on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, police officers and firefighters will offer a hot dog and cold drink combo for just 50 cents. In addition to hosting the event, Fry’s also donates all the food, drinks and grills, allowing all proceeds to benefit the foundation, which in turn purchases needed equipment for the police and …

Police Say Employee Used Customer's Gift Card

A 20-year-old Kennesaw man shouldn't have used his employee discount when he allegedly used a customer's store gift card for himself. Alpharetta police were called to the Best Buy store on North Point Drive on May 11 on a report of theft by an employee. The area asset proection manager for the company met with the officer and the suspect at the store. According to the manager, the store employee had taken a gift card left by mistake by a customer on May 4. Six minutes later he checked the balance on the gift card, which was $1,842 at the time. The employee was accused of taken the gift card without notifying management, and later using it to buy items at another Best Buy store, using his employee number to get a discount. The employee …

Concertgoers Arrested for Underage Drinking, Drug Possession

Several concertgoers at the Project 961 Cinco Party at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre learned that underage drinking was a ticket to jail. A 20-year-old Snellville man was in a parking lot holding a beer at 4:27 p.m. when Alpharetta police asked for his ID. After first saying he didn't have it, the man pulled out his wallet and showed his driver's license. Once he was taken to the security office at the facility, he allegedly tried to hide a bag with capsules behind the bench where he sat. A field test kit showed it tested positive for Ecstasy. Scott Alan Maroney, 20, of Snellville, was charged with possession of a Schedule I drug and taken to jail. He was released on May 8 on an $8,000 bond. Milton Police Arrest Suspected Peeping Tom

A 37-year-old Roswell man says he took a taxi to a Milton apartment complex where he was spotted by police outside a woman's window. The victim called Milton police on May 12 at 1 a.m. to report she heard footsteps outside of her rear-facing apartment for the past half hour, and that her dog had been growling at the window When an officer arrived, he headed to the rear of the apartment building. The officer said he clearly saw a man looking in the window of an apartment. When he said "Hey," the suspect jumped from the window and looked at the officer, who was in plain sight under a floodlight in uniform. The suspect turned and ran around the building, with the officer in pursuit. The officer reported he first shouted at the man "Police! …

Alpharetta Police File Warrants in Fatal Crash

A suspect is expected to turn herself in on Wednesday to face charges in the fatal traffic accident on April 11.

Arrest warrants have been obtained against a woman in connection with a fatal traffic accident on April 11 in Alpharetta. George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, said charges have been made against the driver of the vehicle that investigators say initiated the traffic crash. Now that the investigation of the crash is complete, Haleigh Davis Fine has been charged with: She is represented by an attorney and is expected to turn herself in to police at 5 p.m. on May 16. Edward Kivlin, 67, of Cumming, died on the scene. Police say a red Honda Civic struck a Nissan Pathfinder, which slid into the grassy gore area, struck a guard rail and overturned several times. Motorcyclist Tops 100 mph on Westside Parkway

How fast is too fast? Definitely 102 mph in a 40 mph zone. A motorcyclist driving on Westside Parkway north past Encore Parkway on May 5 was one of a few drivers charged recently not just with speeding, but with reckless driving. An Alpharetta patrol officer had activated his radar unit while driving south on Westside Parkway. He spotted a black motorcycle traveling north that activated his radar, showing the speed as 102 mph, which was 62 mph faster than the speed limit. When the officer saw the suspect check his rear view mirror, he decided to wait until the motorcycle was out of his view to turn around and follow. Man Fleeing Milton Police Wanted on Alpharetta Burglary Charges

An Alpharetta man faces not only burglary charges, but also a citation for fleeing and attempting to elude after Milton police say he tried to escape a traffic stop. And his passenger was cited on drug charges. The Milton officer was heading to a Mountain Road address on April 30 to help Alpharetta's Criminal Investigation Division with a search warrant and an arrest warrant on several burglary counts. The suspect wasn't at that address, but the officer saw a car matching the description of the suspect driving west on Mountain Road at 6:21 p.m. He chased after the suspect, who appeared to accelerate after the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren. Milton Man Critical After Police Shooting

The suspect's Facebook page caused a friend to report threats, and police say he aimed a pistol at officers after they arrived on scene.

A 43-year-old Milton man is in critical condition after he allegedly raised a pistol at responding officers following threats he made through the popular social media site Facebook to kill himself and police officers who came to his home. Capt. Shawn McCarty of the Milton Police Department said a friend of the suspect, Jeff Hamilton, called 911 at 8:15 p.m. May 8 after seeing the suicidal status update. Officers arrived at Hamilton's Morris Road townhome, which is in the Fairview community, five minutes later. Thief Uses Kid, Counterfeit Bills to Steal iPad

A Milton woman who put her iPad up for sale on Craigslist tried her best to protect herself from potential problems, but she still lost her iPad to a thief and had nothing of value to show for it. The woman first told a man interested in the iPad that she wouldn't talk with him until he called back from a number not blocked on caller ID. Next she set up a meeting in a public place, the Exxon station on Morris Road. But then things got a little strange. The man wouldn't come out of his car, asking her to come to the window. But she refused to come near his car. Rather than get out of the car, he sent a 9 or 10-year-old boy to check out the iPad. She showed the boy that it turned on and worked, and the boy returned to the car to get the $200…

Chicago Man Sentenced For Trying to Have Sex with Girl

The defendant traveled to Alpharetta in January 2012 to be a "naughty grandpa" in a sting set up by the FBI.

A Chicago man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after federal prosecutors said he traveled to Alpharetta to have sex with an 11-year-old girl. Michael Isacson, 67, of Chicago, was sentenced May 2 by U.S. District court Judge Charles A. Parnell for for enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. An FBI agent posed as the 29-year-old mother of a girl. The defendant used two different online screen names in communications with the undercover agent. Between December 2011 and January 2012, ISACSON engaged in sexually explicit communications with the agent in which he stated that he wanted to be the child’s “naughty grandpa and her naughty daddy,” according to the release from the U.S. Attorney's office.
