Hopewell Middle School Students Awarded

Awards given to students who are active in school, good citizens, show leadership and are patriotic.

Hopewell Middle School students recently earned Silver Mustang and Daughters of the American Revolution awards. The Hopewell Middle School Silver Mustang awards winners of the 2012 graduating 8th grade class are Diya Sharma and Nico Leis. The Silver Mustang award recipients exemplify what is means to be a Mustang of Hopewell Middle School by being involved in clubs and activities, maintaining an excellent academic record, showing school spirit, participating in community service, being well respected by their peers and are good citizens and role models to all. MARTA Holds Transit Meeting Tuesday Night

The agency's Connect400 team looks for transit alternatives to handle transportation needs along the highway's corridor which figure in the use of MARTA's north line.

MARTA and its Connect400 team will look for public comments Tuesday night on extending the north line from North Springs Station as it proposes developing transit connection options between the I-285/GA 400 interchange and McGinnis Ferry Road. A public meeting will be held at Mimosa Elementary School in Roswell from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on May 22 to reintroduce the project and schedule to the community, and work with local residents to develop potential transit connection options. This is part of MARTA's GA 400 Corridor Transit Initiative: Alternatives Analysis. Milton Eagles Win Lacrosse, Soccer Titles

The Lady Eagles soccer team closes out the day of state championship victories.

Three title games. Three state championships. Milton High School teams won titles games in girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse and girls soccer. The girls lacrosse team took the first championship, defeating Roswell at home at Milton High's stadium. The boys were next to win, but that victory wasn't sealed until overtime in the boys lacrosse championship against Lassiter. Finally, the girls soccer team took on North Fulton rival Northview and won, 4-0, to make the school 3-0 in state championships on Saturday.

Humane Society Puts Labrador-Retriever Mix Up for Adoption

This social young dog would benefit from structure and obedience classes, though he's mastered basic commands already.

Six-month-old Archie has been at the Atlanta Humane Society since he was a small puppy. He originally came to our shelter in March and was a transfer from a shelter in Alabama. This black Labrador retriever mix has been patiently waiting for his chance to upgrade from shelter living to a real home with a family who loves him. He is currently 32 pounds with some growing to do and will probably only be about 0 pounds full grown. Archie is sweet, social and always eager to please, but he would also benefit from structure and obedience training classes. He has begun learning commands and had recently mastered sit, stay and lay down. Archie is a smart boy with a strong desire to learn. Throughout his time here, Archie has learned polite leash …

Cogburn Road Closes Today For Bridge Replacement

Contractors will need almost three months to replace it with an arch culvert, so you'll be making detours if you normally use this road.

Cogburn Road is now closed for three months to through traffic so Milton can replace a deteriorating, narrow bridge just down the hill from the entrance to St. Francis High. Motorists will have to take detours as contractors tear out the old bridge over Cooper Sandy Creek to replace it with a culvert with two, eleven-foot travel lanes with two-foot paved shoulders, curb and gutter with a trail on the west side in conformance with the trail master plan and a rural grassed shoulder on the east side. So if you are driving up Cogburn Road from Windward Parkway to Alpharetta's North Park, if you forget the road closure you'll need to make a right turn at Webb Road and take it to Hwy. 9, turning left to continue north.
